New M1A w/ Folding Stock

I made a post a couple weeks ago talking about a new in the box with paperwork and unfired M1A with a Choate folding stock and it also had a black fiberglass Scout Squad stock with it. I ended up getting it today, and thought I would post a pic of it. I called Springfield and gave them the serial # before I got it, and the lady that answered said she didn't think Springfield ever made an M1A with a folding stock, but when she ran the # she saw that they did. It left the factory in November of 1993 with the Choate folding stock, and she ended up putting me through to a different guy that said there were 250 Choate folding stocks total that were put on M1A's. About 4 hours after I got off the phone with them they called me back asking if i would sell it. It's my first M1a and I love it. Here is a pic below, and I will post some more when I get my camera settings fixed.

So........Tell Us The REST OF THE STORY!!!

What Did They OFFER?
Did You Sell?
(I'm thinking Not!)
Seem's Like There's Two Possibilities---
A. They didn't keep a Folding Stock in the SAI Museum!

B. They Have Had Some REALLY GOOD Offers To Buy One!

Thanks! I told them I just got it and it wasn't for sale right now. It really caught me off guard when they asked me, as I figured they had every variation ever made by them. Maybe I should have asked what they would offer. I'd like a consecutive PAIR of M-21's =). I'll get better pics later tonight or tomorrow. Take care guys.

Nice rifle set.

There is a good reason for why they want it. I would find out why, then say no thanks, it's not for sale. Then watch for the tear drops as big as road apples.

SAI wants a rifle back unfired?

well, way before I would go out and wing a few through her, I would call them back and ask why the piqued interest in this particular rifle, and what they may be able to help you out with.
I'm thinking like maybe you could benifit from a straight up trade with these folks, for a REALLY much nicer rifle, I'm just saying think before you shoot it.
But keep in mind to not be too/overly demanding and you may really get a real sweet deal here, just dont be too hasty, they have the ability to really put you into a super sweet rifle. And as you know we all like SWEET rifles here.
I would at least consider it real hard it before saying no and going shooting it, first thing to do is to find out their true position on it, then give em a chance as they came back to you first on this deal, stop and remember "THEY" called you, and you have but one, and they have hundreds if not thousands to choose from.
as it was mentioned earlier it could be a significant piece of history for them, and the platform altogether that you unknowingly became a part of. and if nothing else possibly the last unfired one them out there.
just sayin, my .02

Thanks from sirtirithon

well its not the stock thats rare choate still sells them pretty cheap http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=269028541 must be something to do with the serial number maybe it was the first modern folder produced and they accidently sold it instead of store it

Thank you guys for the compliments. Man it's just crazy that they are interested in a rifle I have. It couldn't hurt to call them back I guess and see what they would offer. I really like it, but it will be really hard for me to shoot it since it's never been fired so I would think about trading it for something I would shoot the heck out of and have a lot of fun with. Hey does anyone know why it has NM (I'm assuming is National Match) on the front sight and one other place, but not on the back of the receiver where the serial # is? Thank you very much everyone.

Lord the second guy I talked to said they had a contract with Choate that said they could never make any more stocks EXACTLY like these 250 they made for Springfield. I looked at the new ones and I see a little difference but not much.
