| 7.62mm Firearms Report
After communicating with 7.62mm Firearms, LLC I returned a defective rifle they had built earlier this year. The package was mailed on September 8, 2011 via USPS (Delivery Confirmation and Insurance). By September 28, 2011 I had not heard anything from 7.62mm about my rifle.
I went to my local Post Office and had them trace the package. I was told it was at the Post Office in Medina, OH and that delivery notices had been left.
I placed a call to 7.62mm and spoke with "Chris". He told me he was leaving early on that date and would pick up my rifle at the Post Office.
One week later on October 5, 2001 I once again called 7.62mm to check on the progress of my rifle. I was told they were undergoing an ATF audit and would return my call. They failed to return my call. Once again, I went to my Post Office and had the package traced. It was still at the Medina, Ohio Post Office.
I sent emails to the email address on their website... No reply.
I called again on October 6, 2011 and talked to Chris's partner. I explained the situation and at that time I was told "Due to ATF regulations we don't pick up rifles at the Medina Post Office."Seemed strange that a firearms manufacturer could not pick up a rifle. It was shipped in a plain brown wrapper and had nothing identifying the contents as a rifle. It was simply a package that needed to be picked up.
So, to recap this issue.... I've had a defective rifle sitting at the Medina, Ohio Post Office for almost one month. 7.62 mm knows it is there and is simply ignoring it.
I know there are some skeptics here so, here's the tracking number:
03102640000056910100
I've decided to bring this issue to the forum for the new members who may be "lurking" and gathering information prior to purchasing their first rifle. This is my first dealing with 7.62mm, LLC. Obviously, it's going to be my last dealing with them. At this time all I want to do is to get my defective rifle back so I can get it repaired elsewhere. Obviously a warranty means nothing on a 7.62mm rifle.
Suggestions?

Yes, I do have a suggestion, cash and carry my friend, face to face transactions are the only way to go in the present climate. |

I've already decided to go with LRB for a future build due to the other 7.62 thread.

Why was it not delivered to the factory? I get firearms in here from usps all the time from individual owners of said firearms for repairs. If I am not here at a given time (retired) they leave a notice and I pickup from PO. I am an ffl holder since 1962.
According to the usps tracking info as of 7oct11 9:13 am, they tried to deliver the package to the address indicated on 16sept11, WHY WAS IT NOT ACCEPTED THERE WHEN DELIVERY WAS ATTEMPTED? Was it closed? It was not refused. They (USPS) do deliver during normal working hours.

I agree with you 100%...... Unfortunately, in this situation I am 2,480 miles from Medina, OH, the home of 7.62mm, LLC so a face to face meeting is , logistically, not feasable. Also, I am not a certified gunsmith / armorer and this weapon is supposed to be covered by a warranty. Thank you for your suggestion.

Sorry to read about your problem Hobo Hilton.
Please share with us why the rifle was defective and what problems you were experiencing with it. I also have a rifle built by 7.62MM Firearms so I have an interest although, no problems have arisen to date. I've got about 500 rounds through mine with zero defect. Thanks.

Over a year ago, I too, chose to go with LRB (M25) for a "from the ground up" build. I received my LRB this week. I can not say enough good things about the quality, professionalism, excellent communication, patience I've experienced with LRB. I dealt with Sean during the build. Not only did he answer every email and phone call.... He took time to "educate" on the many aspects of the M14. Not one corner was cut in the building of my LRB rifle. Was it expensive? Yes.... Did it take many months of waiting? Yes ........ Was it "worth it"? Without a doubt. Would I have LRB build another rifle? Definitely.
I picked up the 7.62mm, LLC rifle earlier this year so I'd have something to shoot while waiting on my LRB build. As it worked out the LRB build was delivered while the 7.62mm, LLC has been passed around in an attempt to get it repaired.
Thank you for your comment.

Why it was not accepted can only be answered by Chris at 7.62mm, LLC. Again, I spoke directly to him and he told me he was on his way to the Post Office to pick it up. When that question is answered by Chris.... I'll post his reply.
Thank you.

After having approximately 60 rounds fired through this rifle, built by 7.62mm firearms, LLC, was sent to one of the "Gun Professionals" listed on this forum for an armorers inspection. It was determined that, at that time, the headspace was one thousandths of an inch (0.001") from being rejected. In laymans terms it meant with a few more shots it would become unsafe to fire. 7.62mm Firearms, LLC was notified and requested the rifle be returned to them. This conversation was with an individual named "Red" or "Fred".
Thank you for your interest.

Hobo | You stated the weapon was .001 short of reject, was this dimension for .308 reject or 7.62x51 reject?
Do you know what parts were used on this build? What manufacturer of barrel, and bolt were used?
Was there any other indications of problems, did it function properly? Did 7.62MM LLC provide the headspace dimension at the time of purchase?
Thank you for sharing this info, it helps others understand and make informed decisions. I hope 7.62MM responds.
Jim

Sorry to hear about that. I hope it gets resolved soon or you at least get a refund. The words ATF and Audit are not two words I would like to hear in the same sentence.

Today is Friday, October 7, 2011 -
I called 7.62mm Firearms, LLC and spoke to Chris. He stated that this issue has become a "big pain in the butt". Due to the package being held for so long, the local Post Office has moved it to a "regional center" for holding. He has dispatched someone to go and pick it up. He said he would have it within an hour. I requested that he call me after he had inspected the rifle. His reply was --- "Call us back on Monday afternoon". There was no commitment to inspect it when it arrived or to give me a return phone call....... It would seem that my rifle has served it's waiting period and needs to be looked at.
I'll update as information becomes available.

Jim | That's a good point. When Ted built my rifle, he attached a tag to the rifle with the measured headspace (1.631") at the time of the build.

Jim | jake2far,
I do not know if the dimension was for a .308 or a 7.62x51. The gunsmith's findings were that, for a rifle that had shot 60 rounds, the headspace was excessive. Again, I'm not a gunsmith so I have to rely on his many, many years of building these rifles. I have no documentation of headspace at time of manufacture. The barrel is a Kreiger (Scout) that was furnished to 7.62mm Firearms, LLC. The trigger group is by 7.62mm Firearms, LLC and other parts are USGI.
Thank you,
Hobo
