Wilson Barrel Id. M1 Garand

I just purchased a shooter m1 Garand from Gun Broker. The barrel is new 6 grove & never fired ( from what I can tell ) The seller said the rifle had been rebarreled with a Wilson. Took M1 apart, no Wilson Stamp. Here is what can be seen when bolt is back WA A 30/06 12 There are no other markings on barrel, anywhere.
Any M1 Shooters out there ever came across this WA A stamping ? Thanks, Rickashay

Wilson Arms 1:12 Twist. I have a 30.06 barrel that is a 1:10 and it shoots lights out. You did well. Those barrels are my favorite.

Thanks hammonje, for the quick repily. You would think if the barrel maker was proud of his work, he would put his name on it.

A lot of manufacturers abbreviate their names when they stamp them.. Like on M14 mags, you can have a magizine with a W for Westinghouse - for example.

Don't think it's about being proud; if it works well enough, people will ask about it IMO.. ;)

Thumbs up Wilson bbl id

Rickashay1

I put a Wilson bbl on an M1, and I love it. It shoots great. It is a 7.62 nato
and the markings are WA 308 12. It is a 1/12 bbl. By the way,it loves the cheap 147 gr surplus rounds.

I had Deans Gun Repair assemble on an older CMP M1 grade B reciever.

I am real impressed with Dean and his work. I have not seen any complaints on this or CMP forums about his work.

Good luck.

Put it up 5 clicks and start at 50 yards. You should be on paper easily if the barrel was indexed properly. Anyway...it's your ammo!!!!! Good luck and let us know how she shoots. I confirmed mine is a WA 1:10 twist barrel. It has been on my competition rifle for a few years and really lights it up.

Let us know how it goes. I think you will be quite pleased indeed. Best M1 rifle I've ever shot is the Wilson barreled one. My next competition rifle will either have a 60s SA barrel or another Wilson 1:10.

This past Tuesday May 10th I finally was able to go to the range ( rain every day ) With the front site centered & the rear centered /elevation up 4 clicks. First shot was centered fine but about 3in. low. Up one more click ( 5 total ) Rifle put 5 just above bull at 25yds. Cover them with a quarter. Went to 100yds. 6oclock hold from bench rest, shot a virticle string of 8 rounds, just left of bull & 3in high. 8 shots in a virticle string about three inches. This was with DCM. Greek ammo. Will buy some American Eagle made for M1 Garand & go from there. Sights need replaced ( Nat Match )for any fine work. Rifle fun to shoot, with little recoil.
I have two pictures of targets used in the rifle shooting, but to dumb to download from my picture file to this Forum, Rickashay

You're having a lot better luck with your Wilson barrel than I have. I've built 4 NM Garands over the years, one with a Wilson in .30-'06 shooting the worst. The two with Douglas .308 barrels have shot really well.
