M1 stock fitting question

I purchased a stock for a Garand rebuild project and the lockup is a little too tight as I can't get the trigger guard to latch Which surface should I remove a little material from Trigger side or Reciever side

I'm sure it's too tight using a well worn trigger guard and it's not even close to latching

You don't say whose M1 stock you're using, but if it's a Boyd's or Dupage don't file or cut any wood until you've read Gus Fisher's extended posts on new stock fitting. If I had the exact link here I'd give it to you. The same info can be found by running a search at the cmp forum boards and the jouster.com board. Gus explains how to figure out where the wood needs a trim and how much so that when you're done you still get a good lock-up and a safe hammer re-set.

Tompa,

Most of the questions on fitting Garand stocks and handguards are in this section. There are also threads with questions on particular parts of the stocks.

I think this thread will help you out a good deal and then look through the rest of the threads in this section for additional questions/ansers.

Gus, Another Question

Of course, if you have a new question not covered somewhere else in this section, please ask in this thread.
