M1 Help

I've gotten a lot of great info off of this site regarding my LRB but now have a problem with a Garand and since a lot of you guys work on those too, I thought I'ld ask here. Anyways, its my first Garand and I took it out this past weekend. I was shooting some Greek surplus I got off of ammogarand.com pre-loaded into en-bloc clips. The first six rounds, no problem. But after the sixth round went off, the clip halfway ejected getting caught on the returning bolt and the last two rounds were left rattling around inside. I pulled back the op rod and cleared the clip and last two rounds. Did a safety check and loaded another clip. Same thing. Why does the rifle try to eject the clip when two rounds are left? Are the clips loaded wrong, I didn't notice what side the top round was on, does it make a difference. Any other ideas?
Thanks
Brandon

You probly have a weak clip latch spring. I'd replace it with one of these....

Yup, Clip latch spring is weak.

You can stretch the spring in the mean time, until the new one comes in.

It makes no difference which side the rounds are on.

Preferably on the oprod side. It is easier on the thumb when loading the clip.

7th round f-f ended with rcvr mod early on in production.

The Greek enblocks are notorious for this. If you have bought a lot of surplus ammo, you should have lots of enblock clips. Some of the Greek clips are good, but many aren't. Closely inspect the clip latch notches by running your finger over them. They should feel sharper on the good clips. This will eliminate the problems of early clip ejection most of the time. If you were using good GI clips, I would suspect the clip latch, and spring.

I may run into some greek clip issues some day but so far I have 7 M1's (hope no one thinks I have issues ) and all of them do just fine with the greek clips (I've used so far, and reused).

As stated above, get that clip latch spring replaced (cheap, easy to do yourself) and head back to the range.

I'd suspect clip latch spring. Might as well order a new/spare op rod spring while you're at it.

There is no such thing as Greek enblocs. The enblocs that come with the Greek HXP are USGI ,French and German
Some have issues with the JMO German and SF French enblocs
Persoanlly all my rifles function fine with them all. IMO the JMO and SF are made different and if you rifle is slightly worn they wont function properly
I agree with the above, first thing to do is change out Clip Latch spring
If you havent ever replaced Op Rod spring I would also order a full spring kit from Orion7 and install it

+++ on clip latch spring. I have run many of the enblocs through my 3 M1's and never had a problem with the clips from HXP ammo.
