| Thinking about a Tanker
Good Day,
I have always been a M14/M1Anut and have been thinking about a M1A scout build.
I have been biten by the M1 bug and wonder what anyone can give me for feefback on the M1 tanker.
There is an auction out on GB. Auction # 270242315
I am thinking that a tanker would be a nice alternative to the M1A scout. I lived in Colorado for several years and am planning on retiring there in about 5 years give or take.
I lived therefor about 10 years and had several occasions where I was between 40 & 100 or so yards from really big bull & cow elk and just want to have the right rifle with me when I retire.
To me, the GB auction tanker looks very sweet but I don't know enough about the M1 to make an educated decision.
I like the 30.06 potential, not to mention that the tanker just looks freakin great.
I just don't want to tell my wife that I'm building another M1A & I've got a bunch of old 40's mil .06 brass that I would love to bring to life.
Brothers, tell me what you think of the tanker.
Thanks,
Ole Silver

Keep in mind that the M1 replaced the 1903 so had to maintain that 1,000yd accuracy that the 1903 had. Not needing that range a shorty is great. I have two but elected to go with 7.62 to be able to use the same ammo as my M1As.

Huntinghawk,
I'm there with you brother.
I've got a nice 1990 SA M1A, highly modified and in a JAE gen2 that shoots impressively.
Also have two Savage bolts, 10PC & 10FCP that are very nice & shoot the lights out.
I want something different and already roll ammo for my friends for 30.06 & they say they won't ever buy another factory round as long as I'm still kickin & rolling..
I like the .06 and think the M1 tanker is a good alternative to the M1A scout.
Do you have an opinion of Tanker that is up on GB?
Thanks for the reply.
Thanks,
Ole Silver

Bustedknuckles,
That's a pretty hefty piece of change to spend and I want to make sure that if I spring for it that I will get my money's worth.
Thank You for the reply Brother.

With a pic you only get the cosmetics of the gun. Function is more important. So really hard to say anything about a pic except it pretty ot ugly.
So no, I don't have an opinion on anything of GB.
The last one I had built was a CMP rack grade. Rack grade means shot out barrel so perfect canidate for changing out the barrel with a shorty.
And have another with all the parts & side folding stock. Just have to save up the money to have it built.
Only time you "might" be outgunned with a M1 is if you are doing spray & pray.

I like mine. It's .30-06. Tim Shufflin will build you a good Tanker if you don't get the one on GB.

I would go with a 308 tanker. Reason bieng is I had one in 30-06 the muzzle blast is terrible just like the reports on the t-26 stated!I have a tanker in 308 it is a handy weapon.Short and sweet!Carrys like an ak but a hell of alot better weapon!

Being 7.62 or 30/06, both handle alot better with a muzzle brake.

| Muzzle Brake
I also shoot & reload .338 Lapua Mag.
That is my ridgetop to ridgetop heavy hunter.
I'm used to the blast & push, but thanks for the heads up.
My left shoulder is wasted but my right is good to go.
Ear plugs & muffs are saving what hearing I have left.
I just think that tanker is nice in .06
Thanks,
Ole Silver

I do have a number of muzzle brakes on rifles...
I was just hoping for a 'this one is the best one I have found for the .308 Tanker Garand' recommendation...
