| The "Modern" Garand
"Modern Day" M1 Garand.
I have shot and carried as Match guns, hunting guns, and as work guns, many different military type semiautos.
For "Civilian Citizens" especially those that live in restrictive States, or those that would like a powerful, slim and trim rifle, a Garand is a good choice.
For a "High Tek Garand" a "Tanker" version is great choice.
It has the overall length of a M16. It shoots the 308 or the 30/06.
It does not have a protruding detrachable magazine, so it is slim and trim.
Many thing the 8 round clip is a serious liability, in the modern world.
But if you do the math...
Lets be real.
In the short term 8 rounds vs 20 might be a handicap.
But how many 20 round mags will you have, 5, 10, 20???
With a Garand it is easy to have 300 8 round clips, meaning 2400 rounds ready to go...
So IMHO, the Garand is worth a look. Even in its original WWII configuration, it is a good rifle to have.
Very good IMHO.

An M1 with a guy who knows what he's doing behind it certainly makes for a formidable opponent, even today.

Very very formidable, IMHO.
I have carried my Tanker on several road trips.
Never felt under gunned.

If you own a M1A, going with a 7.62 M1 makes logisitical sense. Tactical, sometimes its an advantage to be able to load from the top.
I've a shorty M1 that I added an AK pistol grip to & makes the M1 very manuverable & if necessary, can shoot one handed. A muzzle brake on a shorty helps alot.
And you can put forward optics on them such as an Eotech or Aimpoint.

Yessir, I do love a Garand. My Daddy kept one around as far back as I can remember. He taught me to handle it at 11 or so, I was a big kid. No idea how many rounds I've put downrange with it, and it was my constant companion in the woods from 15 or 16. I've mentioned here before that I'm new to the M-14, not to US service rifles. That Garand is why.

I was in the Navy between 1962-66 and we still had Garands on my ship on all three tours to the Nam. I asked one of our officers why we still used Garands and the Marines had those nifty new M-14's and he replied...
Son the Navy spends it money of ships and planes, small arms have always taken a back seat. It made perfect sense to me and I've never forgotten the wisdom of what he told me.
