| Just Got An Email From CMP
Based on what everyone was telling me that what I saw on my CMP trip was not the norm and a Service Grade would be worth it, I sent in my order for a Service Grade HRA last Tuesday via Priority Mail. USPS says they got the order Thursday. This morning I received an email from CMP saying they were shipping my Garand today and I will get it tomorrow. I was surprised considering the website and paperwork say 30-60 days and today is a federal holiday.
Hopefully after opening the box I will be instead of followed by & . I will let you know maybe with pics even.
Marty
ETA: Better go get some Coleman Lantern Fuel, disposable turkey roasting pan, a cheap paint brush and some EZ Off.

Radio (and Email) silence continues on my order. Oh instant gratification, when will you be mine?
Anyway, any pics of your new rifle?

Yeehaw, got my email just now, says they have had it since the 11th. I am in the que, but no mention of how long the processing time is going to take, just that they have to deal with everyone in front of me.

Please do not use oven cleaner. Everytime someone does that treatment, John Garand kills a kitten. WHY DO YOU HATE KITTENS????
edit: this is assuming you get a GI stock, and not a new production.

Marty | a) because there are less radical options
b) they tend to turn stocks from deep red to green
c) oven cleaner does nothing to remove soaked-in cosmoline
d) it's a piece of old wood, not an oven interior
Really, you haven't even seen/received the rifle and you are already eyeing up one of the least wood-friendly options.

A lot, maybe most, of the Service Grades going out now are coming with brand new stocks, minus all the old cosmoline.

Acetone....use odorless mineral spirits to cut the cosmo. This doe snot affect the stock coloration. If you want to keep the patina then be wise.

Man, that was fast. I got an email on Monday saying they had received my order, but that it would take another 30-60 days before they shipped. Only time will tell how long. I ordered the HRA Service Grade as well. Can't wait to see it.

Yeah the 30-60 day shipping delay seems standard, I am now even more amazed that PC got his email AND shipping confirmation all in one day!
I guess he's at home drooling over it right now or openly weeping if someone lifted the FedEx package off his doorstep.

I guess he's at home drooling over it right now or openly weeping if someone lifted the FedEx package off his doorstep. | You HAVE to sign for it. No exceptions. I was home 2, count them 2 minutes when FedEx pulled in the drive. Talk about timing. Unboxed it and the tag indicated the MW is 1+, TE is 2+, Rifle Grade is G-3, Inspecting Armorer SN, Date 12/5/11. It has a HRA Barrel dated7-55, SA bolt and a SA trigger group with a milled trigger guard. Barrel is shiny with decent rifling all the way through the barrel. Looks a little shallow near the muzzle; of course, this could be normal. Based on stamps and other areas, I think I have a HRA stock. Since this is my first Garand, it's obvious I'm no expert on Garands. I'm working on a project for school due tomorrow. After I get home tomorrow I'll detail strip and decosmoline it. I'll take some pics too.
Marty
ETA: JUst checked and it has a HRA op rod.
