Lubing without disassembly

Brand new to this forum and saw a link to the subject of this post but the link didn't work. If you can direct me to this thread I would appreciate it.

I acquired a Springfield Garand recently that was set up for High Power competition - all NM stuff- and built using a Douglas 308 barrel. I understand from others posting here that the rifle should not be disassembled due to glass bedding. Looking for the best guidance on taking care of my Garand.

Thanks for you help.

Yup, same here.

For the Garand, just take a stir stick and dab it into a can of grease and swab it into the bolt stub that goes into the op rod. Pull the op rod back just a tad to lift the bolt lugs, and it will expose the cam area of the op rod for grease.

Remove the trigger group and run some grease onto the bolt where it rides under the bolt, and also some grease on the upper rear of the receiver heel, underneath, where the bolt comes back.

Frankly, you can field strip the rifle once a year or after maybe 500 or 1,000 rounds, it shouldn't mess anything up IMO.

Good luck and welcome!

Thanks JWB, I appreciate the advice.
It is really a sweet old rifle and I want to pass it on in great condition one day.

Have a great week

I use a Q-tip to clean off the soot & old grease from:
Bolt face
Back of the bolt
Top of the round surface above the bolt face
Bottom of the bolt that rubs on rounds in the clip
Left & right areas where the bolt lugs ride
Inside the oprod cam hump
Trigger surfaces
Accessible area of oprod

Then use a clean Q-tip to apply a fresh 'skim' of grease onto those surfaces.

If the rifle is exposed to heavy water or dust, then I'd remove from stock, and strip & clean.

I use a small paint brush to add grease between complete tear downs
