Talking M1 Garand #

I was in Cabela's friday and they had two M1 Garands on the used rifle section--but they had no serial numbers?????? anyone one know what they are??? receiver looked in very good shape but smooth as a baby's butt where the serial number went.

I don't think a firearm can be legally sold without a unique serial number, but I guess I could be wrong. Maybe they were removed, or very faint, or covered with new parkerizing? I would be leery of purchasing a firearm without a legible serial number.

More than likely a CAI commercial reciver. As I remember the heels on those have no markings

Serial Number could be on the left side of the receiver under the wood.

I do not know who made them, I would not buy it. If your interested in one, your best bet is to buy one from CMP or a well know source.

I was out at the County Sheriff range a few weeks ago and the range gods were doing inventory. Besides several M14's they had about a dozen or so Garands. These were supposed to have come from the Feds as a LE loan. I noticed that one of the M1's didn't have stamped heel and when I looked more closely at it..........................it was a cast CAI receiver!?!?!?! Me thinks there was something going on there....................

Yes, Century Arms International. Cast receivers REALLY POORLY MACHINED in the Lithgow Arsenal in Australia, BUT NOT DONE BY good machinists there.
Some buddies visited Lithgow a couple of years ago when they where there to teach Armorers Courses. Lithgow Arsenal is just a bunch of almost barren/empty warehouses and almost no machinery left, whatsoever.

I most strongly recommend people do not buy the CAI receiver Garands as they are usually extremely expensive just to get them to function IF YOU CAN even get them to function correctly.
