600 yard Lapua load for Garand

One of the local F-Class shooters cleaned out his cabinet and sold me a box of Lapua 170 grain lock base bullets at half the price of SMK's so I figured what the heck. I plan on using 46 grains of N-140, a middle of the road charge on Lapua's site in commercial cases and BR2 primers.

Does anyone have experience with these bullets?

I have not used the Lapua 170gr bullets, but I have used 175smk / 45.5-46.5 of N140 / LC brass / any primer........ It shot extremely well in my NM garand!!!

46.0 of N140 should do well.

I saw your rifle in your album, a very fine piece indeed! Are you Phil McGrath?

I recognized the name from Jouster.

Thanks again for your input!

Given how well my Garand shot 150gr loads I'd also try Lapua 155gr scenars. They have a good BC, fly like the 175gr SKM and should provide a softer recoil for accuracy.

The rub with that is the only load development I can do for 600 yards is at a match! I may have to find a place on private land to work something up.

Well shoot them at a distance you got and plug the info into a ballistics program. Wing it a little come match day. You normally get a couple spotters. Make them count.
