Yes, they fit, although not perfectly. The 7.62 is a tad wider toward the head, and the clips are stretched some. Nothing to be concerned about, though.

the CMP is going to offer a special built with a 7.62x51 bbl. I read it on ask orest.

Standard weight Garand barrels are to easy to get ahold of, Fulton, DGR, Brownells, and I think the CMP E-store have them, I think that Fulton even has them in .270 Winchester. Though the days of cheap USGI NOS barrels are gone forever I think.
