| Marlin 1894 CB
I've been looking for a marlin 1894 Cowboy in 45LC with 24" barrel for quiet a while.
I walked into a local gunstore yesterday at it was the first lever I saw. Exactly what i've been looking for brand new in the box $750 out the door. Beautiful wood with excellent fit and finish, which is uncommon nowadays. This one is made by marlin and it shoots and functions great.
I think it's one of the most fun guns to shoot I've ever had.

I have an 1894FG, a Marlin in .41Magnum, and they really are very fun to shoot, besides being very compact and handy. I bought my brother a Winchester Trapper in .45Colt (Trapper = 16" barrel) and it sure is fun lobbing those 250- and 300grn slugs downrange!
If you really like the Marlin, or have some questions about it, there is a really good group of us over at Marlin Owners... http://www.marlinowners.com/forums/ |

I love this rifle. I can't believe I found one made by Marlin (not remington). I've not heard anything good about the remington/Marlins. It is so much fun to shoot. My youngest of 3 sons tried to wear it out today, had a blast.

What's wrong with the new ones? I've wanted to pick up a 45-70 and was looking at that 1895LXR.

Sunnyb, I haven't heard anything bad about the 1895 . If it's as good as the ones made before Marlin sold out I would buy one in a heart beat. The 1894 is a little different as they seem to have more feeding problems than their bigger brother. I quess the shorter pistol cartridges could be the reason for that.

I have a 44 mag version. Fantastic carbine, and with 10 rounds in the tube, its a boat-load of compact, lightweight firepower!
I think the peep sight I put on the rear is a huge improvement (Skinner).
Super reliable and accurate carbine. |

Well that's good to know I'd rather just buy a new one unless, I find a good deal on a used one. Thanks for the info.

Go here and do a search on most any lever gun for reviews. http://www.levergunscommunity.com/in...923f3a0f9d4321
there is also a marlin owners forum.
don't get me wrong, I think Marlins are the greatest but word is they are having quality problems since the moved to NY. They must have left behind all those skilled workers that did such a fine job at the old marlin plant.

I been digging around today and I'm starting to get the feeling that the post rem ones might be a little sketchy. I'm not really in to much of a hurry, so I'll just wait until I find a nice used 1895G for sale.

Sunnyb, I did a search and found that the 1894 cb 45 lc that I just bought new in the box was made in 2002 so the pre remingtons are out there. I'm sure all the new ones aren't bad though. Hang in there.

Great guns. Before I got my Win Trapper in 44mag, I had a Marlin. While I really like my Win Trapper, I really wish I had the Marlin back.

Nice find on that one, I'm not sure what serial number to look for thou, except I believe the new ones have a "MR" in the SN.

The Marlin made Marlins have JM stamped on the barrel just in front of the reciever ring on left hand upper flat on octagon barrels, and the Remington ones have something like REM. Mine has North Haven, CT on the barrel and I would think the Remingtons would say NY.

I took out the block in the magazine tube and can get a couple of extra rounds loaded. I use it for a varmit rifle around the cabin, deer hunting and selfdefence.
