I just got into lever guns and picked up a Marlin 1894 a few weeks ago. I've only gotten it to the range once so far, but it's definitely a fun gun to shoot. I'm in the process of getting myself set up to reload both 44 mag and 45-70. I bought a Lee Classic Loader set in both calibers but I've quickly learned that I need to get a press set up

Nice rifle.
I wish I still had my model 94 in .357, sold it to a friend so I at least get to shoot it once and a while.

Got both a Uberti 1873 rifle and pistol in 44-40. I finally just set one of my Dillon 650s up for 44-40. Great shooting caliber.

Nice rifle, very nice rifle!!

......and you bet! I have long been a black powder cartridge re-loader/fan. I have rifles and one S/A revolver chambered in 44-40. Plenty of punch for whitetail deer, and a lot of fun as a plinker/target shooter. I have never loaded any in smokeless powder - but have digested a lot of smokeless reloads from other sources. Fine cartridge.

My favorite BP cartridge???? 45/70 of course - in an 1886 Winchester Rifle! Unbeatable.

Followed very closely by the 45/75 Winchester in an 1876 Winchester (clone) rifle - chopped and customized by me.

Talking

Get yourself one or two Taylor's Deluxe Smokewagons in 44WCF.

They are Uberti 1873 Cattleman sixguns with tuned triggers, action jobs, lighter springs, and checkered gunfighter grips. I have a pair in .44-40 and they have buttery smooth actions with a crisp 2.5-3lb trigger.

44-40 is a great historical cartridge. I have friends who reload this caliber and shoot it in several firearms.

I settled on the 44 spl for my "cowboy" cartridge. Straight walled cartridges are easy to reload.

I still may get a firearm in this caliber in the future.
