All mulies. The one in the picture with my Dad and I is my California deer. The other two where here in Montana. Both in the same section of state trust land about 1/2 mile apart.

Have 2 99's in 250 and 300 savage. The rifle was WAY ahead of its time, several safety features...you almost have to shoot yourself on purpose. A true Hunters rifle. I don't hunt game anymore...kills paper out to 200 yds all day.

Add me to the list of Savage 99 Lovers. Actually mine is marked 1895, and is the 75th Anniversary model only produced in 1970. It is Chambered in .308win and has a 24" Octagon Barrel. I never mounted a Scope, but with iron Sights it is plenty accurate out to 200yds. I haven't fired it in about 20yrs perhaps I should pull it out of the Safe and see if it still works.

Thanks from russ0861 and ColdWarGrunt

I have always liked the 99s too. Have been looking for THE one for a few years now. Just never bit on one yet. My uncle has had a 99E forever it seems like. Always liked it and wanted one of my own.

Wolf
Wolf...I think your post is a testament to the fact it is better to get out there and do what you like doing rather than lay up in the house. Making it to 97 when almost everyone of his buddies were gone is by walking the hills, smelling the fresh air, and dropping a respected critter for food will be hard to beat. No ZUMBA class can compare.

I think keeping a smile on your face and doing what you enjoy is the not-so-little-known secret to a happy and full life.

My grandfather did the same thing with fishing.

I got screwed over when I bought my first and only 99 from a Nebraska farmer in 308. There was a burr in the chamber and the SOB never told me. I had to find out when it refused to extract a fired case.

I could not find any gunsmith in the central Nebraska area that could remove it, so I sold it for a loss.

Each and every lever action 308 I had, seemed to have extraction problems. I even recently sold my BLR for the same reason...at a loss.

Now it is BOLT ONLY for my 308's. Other than the beloved M14.

I am sure it is just a personal curse.

It's a shame. I love the lines of the 99 and the way it handles.
