The Lieutenant old TV show on DVD

I recently got the first season of the 1963-64 series with Gary Lockwood. I watched it when it first came out, I was 10 and loved it then. Chock full of M14 rifles. What I didn't know was that it was the brainchild of Gene Roddenberry of STAR TREK fame. I recognize so many of the actors who were mostly quite young back then, I believe Lockwood is nearing 80 years old now! Watched the third epi just now with Rip Torn as guest star as a hard charging DI who Lockwood is sent to investigate if he is being too brutal with the recruits. Very entertaining. I think I will order season 2 now.

I remember that TV show quite fondly. Used to watch every week, also at the age of ten, in the '63 season. We could use more like them, today!

The Lieutenant just finished a set reruns here on over-the-air tv. Great show. My wife and I scheduled our Saturday mornings around it. That Rip Torn episode is among the best.

The Rip Torn epi also had Greg Morris in it from Mission Impossible. I also saw Chris Connelly from I believe the old Peyton Place show from back then. I think that's what he was in, long time ago.

More like young whippersnappers. It was almost like a "must watch" training film among my bunch of H.S. ROTCers. Got our first TV in 1951 and I can recall a lot of those early programs from that time - and even some of the plots and actors. TV was a big deal back then.

Thanks from RDS and WaM14gunner

Awards Showcase

There are a few seconds in the series of great footage launching M29 practice rifle grenades from the M14. How about some of you techno wizards posting that footage here? I bet a lot of guys would like to see it.

Both Majel Barret and Nimoy of course went on to star in Star Trek. If I recall Barrett was married to Gene Roddenberry.

Lot's of familiar faces on The Lieutenant , Robert Vaughn of Man From Uncle & The Magnificent Seven [the original movie , not the lame remake] was the recurring character Captain Rambridge along with many other well known names and even better known faces.
