Yes it is, but remember the "war" changed after the initial invasion. Things changed drastically after the invasion, and I'm still waiting for a film to come out that takes place in Iraq between '04-'07 and does it justice. Hurt Locker was a pepped up Hollywood depiction that just follows some Rambo-style guy who is apparently not only an EOD guy, but a sniper too. I wasn't part of the initial invasion, so this series let me see how it went down.

IMHO probably the best modern war movie made to date and my favorite war movie. I like Band of Brothers as well and later episodes of the Pacific I simply can't watch.

The last part of the book deals with war after the invasion. That was not presented in the series.

A lot of those guys were wounded or killed later, when things went pear shaped, and the author stayed in touch with many of them.

I highly recommend the book, though I think the series definitely did it justice.

Sort of like how Full Metal Jacket left out the last part of The Short Timers. It's hard to watch the movie, after reading the book.

While I think series is great, I enjoyed the book much more. Another book that I have to recommend is "One Bullet Away". It was written by Lt. Fick, the leader of 2nd Platoon. Many of the things he wrights about parallel Generation Kill, however he is able to go into greater depth about
things that happened. Part of it is a biography about his time the Corps, but it is a great read.

Just something that yall might want to check out.

There is another excellent book about Airborne troups in Afganistan titled "War". It was written by Sebestial Junger, a reported who spent about a year off and on with them. It delves more into the personal effects war has on our young soldiers, and the aftermath. Really made me appreciate the sacrifices being made every day by our troops.
