Books I'm currently reading.

I am notorious for reading too many books at once. My wife gets a little sick of how many I'll have lying around at any given time but its my job to make sure life with me doesn't get too easy.

With the new movie "Act of Valor" coming out in February I've been reading some military books, SEAL books specifically.

American Sniper by Chris Kyle- Good book, easy read, I've been devouring this 70 pages at a time. No nonsense perspective from Chris about being a Seal, a Sniper, War with a perspective from his wife as well. good stuff.

Warrior Elite- This book is all about the training for SEALS from Indoc to getting their Tridents. written by Dick Couch, BUDs Class 39, 1969 as he follows 228. I didn't think I would enjoy a book like this that was entirely training but it gives you an appreciative perspective on what it takes to become a SEAL. A lot of great warriors do not make it, sometimes due to reasons beyond their control.

Art of War by Sun Tzu- This is a slow digest and no doubt a book read by and for all disciplines. It is a Tao, a way, for living, competing, planning in life. It is a philiosophy that can translate through all realms in life. The history of the record of Sun Tzu is interesting and a mystery in itself.

Lone Survivor by Marcus Lutrell- Most people know something about the story of this team being overrun in the Afghan Mountains. Toward the end of the book it gets very hard to read. This book affected me for days after I was done. Marcus was a rollback to class 228 interestingly enough as well. Also a good friend of Chris Kyle, another Texas boy.

Seal of Honor by Gary Williams- This is the story of Michael Murphy, Marcus Lutrell's team leader and his life leading up to that point. Michael was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for actions in that mission to save his team. That moment, as explained by Marcus, will put a hard lump in your throat. I haven't got to this book yet because I've read Lone Survivor and I know where it' leading. I need to be in the right frame of mind.

Anyway, sorry if this is all old hat for you grizzled page turners and warhorses. I was not in the service so I try to do my part and not forget. Thought I would share some of these good reads.

Good selection.

The Art of War was a mandatory read for our management team.

When it first came out, Lone Survivor kept me awake during the long flight from JFK to Barcelona that I finished it by the time we landed. Definitely a good read.

Lone Survivor is an excellent book. If you want to get the wife off of your back, you could get a Kindle.
