I watch the shows to see the guns and that is about it. The sad thing is, with a decent technical advisor, the shows could be good and not lose a part of their audience.

I can't remember the name but there was a show a few years ago that must have received some of its funding from H&K, because every time they showed one of their firearms it was far superior to anything else like it. I have quit watching so many of these shows because of their simplistic and inaccurate presentations. There was one that was talking about magnums and made it seem like just labeling a round a magnum gave it superpowers.

I was not completely happy with the Garand show. I wish they had spent more of the air time on the Garand instead of everything else. They could have shown the gas trap system evolving into the gas cylinder system. After WW2 the rebuild program and the new production for the Korean war. Also would have liked to have seen the evolution from battle rifle to National Match service rifle to Navy 7.62 Garand to a DCM gun for Civilian Marksmanship Program. A LOT of good Garand stuff was left out.... while a lot of trivia about other guns was left in.

Still, as has been pointed out....better than watching (light in the lofers) dress designers having cat fights about who used their hair gel.

Overall, an interesting show. They did overlook a few facts and got a few of the graphics wrong comparing different rifles.

They did have a show about the M1911 .45 - It was fun to watch as well.

I just thought I would pass this info along in case you found it interesting to watch.
You'll find that both the History and Military channels to be fairly sloppy about what they're "supposed" to be "educating" about. There was recently a show on Sniping over the years and of course they ignored the M1C and D, as well as the M21. They also ignored the fact that the 1917 Eddystone made a great sniping rifle. It was the first rifle I shot seriously in Hi Power matches since my '03 had a 2 grove barrel on it and I'd already had a heavy barrel put on my 1917. I did use stock sights on it since they were that good (had to have one made for the HB to equal the issue front sight).

Or drag queens! (Ducking and running!). If you went down into the Video Bay at ABC at night, sounded like a lot of tires with leaks.

R. Lee lives up in the Palmdale/Lancaster area, north, northeast of LA. Nice guy and fairly funny if you get him going.

To give you and idea of "production" values... Hollywood doesn't care. *IF* you look at the pictures I put back up, I took a ParaFAL up to the range and burnt off a magazine to make the point of the way people shoot on film. They didn't care, realistic shooting wasn't "Sexy".

Hell, last night the Military channel noted that the M14 had a 5 year lifespan, that was not the case since the M16 was "officially" issues in 67 (although the EBR was sent into NAM starting back in 65). M14s are still in use today as M21s, M25s and DMRs, all coming out of Naval Armories. The USMC has been screaming for their 14s since 67.

Hollywood Magic.

Funniest scene I've seen in a movie for a long time was in soldier. There is a scene where Kurt Russell comes out of the water with a GE Minigun and blazes away. The way the scene really happened was the kid they had working on the minigun set it back to factory specs. You can't control it with that rate of fire, even if it was a blank gun. Kurt got pushed down into the water and they reversed the footage for the film. I worked on that weapon twice. 1st was to modify it from Helicopter mount to hand held and slow the rate of fire to something more controllable (3000 rpms), not to mention rigging Ventura up with with the wiring needed to run the minigun. 2nd time was for T2.

Jump the shark?

I just had to Google "jump the shark" I learned something new today thanks to the M14 Forum! Yes Top Gun jumped the shark a long time ago as far as I'm concerned. Most TV is a waste of time, that's why I'm here on the forum and not watching TV!
