Post I want Electronic Ear Muffs

I was wanting to get some electronic hearing protection but I am also trying to do so thriftily so that I may better spend my cash on other things (meaning more M-14 stuff of course )

There are some realy cheap pairs on cheaper than dirt that I was considering getting since it wouldn't be a big hit to my pocket book if I didn't like them.

Thoughts on this or maybe some other products I should consider? If these things are really super McAwesome like they seem to be then perhaps I should consider buying top of the line. Which would that be and in what kind of price range?

My Mom gave me a pair of these for Christmas a couple years ago. I really like them.

Those hearing aid size ones are the way to go! I have a pair of peltors that do a good job for shootin pistols but they do get in the way when trying to get a good cheek weld, for rifles I just use foam ear plugs!

22 NRR is pretty low, and $60 to boot. I bought a set of Peltor's from Dillon (excellent but $135) and I have some from Sportsman's Guide (very good and $20). Years ago, when 'Wolf Ears' were new and rare, I was wearing a pair in my deer stand. I couldn't believe how wonderful it was to actually hear things again. Two hunters came by my stand, and one said. "Look at that fool wearing ear protectors on a deer stand. What is he afraid of?"

Not cheap but.....

......Peltor's from Dillon at $135 were what I needed to shoot IPSC....there are a lot of range commands I needed to hear.

Take it from a old artilleryman......protect your hearing......this is an item that is worth the investment.

Go for the Peltors, my unit bought abunch of those and it was a shame I had to pass them off to a cherry on my way out

They will be money well spent.

The full size Peltor Tacticals are truly excellent. The sound quality is great, and they paid attention to the design and placement of the microphones so that you get a really natural sense of direction of sounds.

Some have reported stock weld problems with the large Peltors hitting the stock, never been a problem for me. Probably has to do with the shape of your head/placement of your ears in relation to your eyes.

I have tried other el cheapo electronic muffs and the difference in sound quality/ directionality is night and day. You get what you pay for.

Oh and Midway just put them on sale $37 off, which helps cuz they ain't cheap. But if you like them and they work well, you are more likely to wear them which is what matters most.

Edit: I just realized the link I posted is for the Peltor Tactical Pro muffs. I have Tactical 7 muffs, which can be had for somewhat less than the Pro model. the Pro model has some new features I guess, like auto shutoff if you leave them turned on...

Peltor Comtac is what I use and I freaking love them, there tactical headphones are slimmer and should not interfere with aiming

Anyone ever use the MSA Sordin Supreme Pro X muffs? I've heard lots of good things about them. Plus you can get 'em in OD with a camo band.

I've got a very worn pair of old Peltor tactical 7s's that have been fantastic. They have seen alot of use and abuse and never let me down.

I thought I'd try a new pair of the more slim Peltor tactical sport's and that was a big mistake, their no where near the quality or the protection of the older pair.

I've been happy with my Peltor 7's although I have forgot to turn them off from time to time only to find the 9v battery dead. I bought a cheap pouch to store them in from WM and keep and extra battery or two in the pouch.

But as said earlier, they are a bit large for rifle use.

Cool Peltor Work Tunes

I rather like my Peltor Work Tunes. Dial tuner, the newer ones are digital, with a separate control for an AM/FM radio and for audio amplification. The noise gate works VERY well.

I'll wear that to the range and listen to my radio as I shoot, I find it helps me to relax. If someone were to break in, I'd turn up the hearing amplification to maximum--super human hearing--with the noise gate and the padding to minimize my disorientation if I had to fire.

Best!
