S&W Model 657 .41 Mag

Here's a little sumthin' I picked up today for a song. NIB, bead blasted stainless, rosewood grips, 3" bbl, and it's a "pre-lock." Found it on consignment in a shop about a 2 hour drive north of where I live. Ought to make a mighty fine carry piece.

Good score , Senior!

.41 mags are a favorite of mine (got 12) and that big bore snubbie is on my hit list!

I have an older NIB model 57 S&W .41 mag that I inherited from my dad and it is a fine piece of work. Great caliber and very easy to reload for too. With sensible loads the cases last a long time and unlike those self loaders, they don't toss their brass out in the weeds never to be seen again.

Very nice. I have been looking for a 41 Magnum. I really like the grips.

41 mag was the first magnum I ever fired. Oddly, it's the only one I would have these days. When somebody makes a .41 left-handed in stainless, I guess I'll have to buy it.

Awards Showcase

A Model 57 was my first duty gun, loaded with SuperVels it really let you know that you were shooting a real revolver!

That is a VERY nice pistol... good catch!

I sold off my 657 6.5" Classic some years ago to fund my Socom16 purchase... and regret it, now. I still have my first gen 4" 57 to keep me company (along with a few other .41's) but I sure do miss my 657...

I bet that snubbie would be all I'd want to hang on to with full power loads.

.41's are getting hard to find. And so are reloading components. But I love mine. I have two 1894 carbines in .41 Mag, including a Cowboy version. And a big Ruger Redhawk. This bad boy will shoot some ragged holes in targets:

...HAD...

I sent it in to S&W, they worked it over. It would shoot 5 rounds into one hole at 25'...

TexIndian... nice Ruger! I've tried to find a 5" Redhawk for some time, but they are very few and far between... much like Mack's 3" Smith. I think I've only seen 3 or 4 of the Smiths in the past 10 years... and those were the Lew Horton specials with the round butt.

Thanks from Whatsinaname181

I carry a 4" model 58 as a backup for Bear hunting. Great gun and caliber.

Nice gun. Seems that ammo is getting harder to find for the 41 mag. Maybe it is over shadowed by it's slighly larger brother the 44 mag?

Difficult but, not impossible to find. The internet (online ordering) is probably the best source for .41 Mag ammo. Very few local shops that I know carry ammo for it. After acquiring a stash of brass, I'll more than likely reload for it.
