Tony Rist 1911 grips

Picked these up for $15. De-greased, steamed scratches, hand rubbed a few coats of tung, and wet sanded with 1500 grit and tung. I finished with several coats of Renaissance wax. I never knew wood to be holographic, but this cocobolo really is. From maker Tony Rist. Anybody hear of him? His site is down.

Question

They look like Mesquite? And there too dark for Koa.... Very warm and handsome wood regardless.

The flames literally dance in the sun as the angle is changed, like a holograph. The fatter grip seems to make the arched mainspring housing easier on my hand, too. My other 1911's have flat mainspring housings.

Very nice! For wood Cocobolo is my absolute favorite, for me the more reddish-orange wood is the ticket.
