Auto Ordnance 1911PKZSE

Good morning!

I got word from my dad yesterday that he is going to retire. He has mentioned wanting a .45 for a while, so as a retirement gift I am planning to get him an Auto Ordnance Parkerized 1911 (1911PKZSE). Of course I will go through all the legal means and get it transferred to his name.

I have a few questions for you guys. It seems to me that the 1911PKZSE is sold out everywhere and has been for a couple months. I can get one straight from auto ordnance, but they are much cheaper through all of the other online vendors such as Bud?s, Sportsman guide, etc. Does anyone know what is going on with production? Will they come back in stock? Or does anyone know an online vendor where I can find one?

I plan on making a gift of one of these also. This model is parkerized but has wood grips. If you get some GI plastic grips it will look totally GI.

Edit: Just discovered some dealers are showing GI grips on this model and some are saying it has a black finish. I guess you need to call the dealer. Auto Ordinance says parkerized with wood grips. What a mess!

They have different versions of these. Some like mine are black oxide, there is also blue and parked. Mine, the b/o version came with plastic grips which I switched out to wood. Cant go by the generic pics that dealers show on their sites.

It would seem that if AO changed the finish or the grips they would change the model number but then this would make it too easy I suppose.

That model has different variations.......some folks are also getting it confused with the BKO model

That's a nice looking pistol. I bought an Auto Ordnance/Thompson 1911a1 in 1986 when I got out of the Army. Shot ppc matches for years in 'as delivered' condition. Shot it, shot it some more, and then shot it a lot more. 1000's of rounds sent down range with it. not. one. hiccup. I put fresh springs in it and gave it to my son for his 'ets' from the Army present and now he's out there trying to wear it out. Good gun at a good price. What more could one ask for?

Completely different pistols now.....much better quality. Auto-Ordnance had a poor reputation. Since Kahr took over they have come a long way.....friends with the older ones had issue after issue....kept me from buying one. After reading the reviews on the newer ones lately I pulled the trigger on a BKO a couple weeks ago. Couldn't be happier, with exception to the damn series 80 BS......I intend to pick up a couple more and keep as is only replacing worn or broken parts.

I know what you saying here and have read the horror stories also. Luckily, mine was not one of them. For the price I paid, and the years of good service, it was a great deal. Guess I got lucky eh?

If you have that many rounds through that quality of 1911 and only changed springs I would suggest at minimum checking the sear/disconnector/hammer for wear....

They went for about $275 new at a retailer I worked for in '94. Your the first I've heard with a positive experience with any longevity of use. You should play the serial number in the lottery!.....; )

Thanks from High Hat

Thanks for the replies guys. It looks like I will have to go the gunbroker route and just make sure I have clear communication with the seller about what the finish is. I think the black is sharp, but my intent is to have a WWII USGI look alike.

Springfield doesn't use any 80 series anything..... And that is just the way JMB intended it.
