Nope, but nice!

I wish Ruger or S&W would do a compact, 5-shot, lightweight .44Spl, like a better-made Charter Arms Bulldog.

I bought one right after they were released in December. It is a Nice Revolver with the 3" Barrel, and weighs about as much as a 1911 Govt. I have been trying to find a Load that it likes, and find that it favors lighter Bullets. It's definately not as accurate as my S&W 69, but for about $650 it's worth it in my Opinion. The action is very smooth for a GP-100. What I don't like is the Hi Viz front sight which I will replace with a Brass bead solid sight from Novak. Hope this Helps................Lew

I have the M69 S&W Combat magnum. It is a very niece revolver, but I will probably pick up one of the new Rugers. I prefer the Rugers over the Smiths on most occasions. I am ass backwards.

$640 here:

I'm thinking maybe a 200 grn truncated cone FMJ bullet, not one of those CAS target loads, might be the ticket for these.

I did look over the Ruger GP 100 44 special, it's nice but I'm holding out for a Smith model 24 with a 6" barrel.

Thanks from CharlieLima

Don't they make a very similar pistol in 44mag? Don't get me wrong I shoot specials a good bit in my smiths. I understand the frame size is smaller on this model, but it's not that much smaller. I wish they would make this same pistol in the old 41 mag. Very capable caliber that is all but forgotten.

No, he's talking something like the S&W 696... a 5-shot L-frame .41Mag. It's on my Christmas list, too...

I had a Charter Arms Bulldog as my carry gun back in 1993-4. Had to handload it down it for comfortable target practice but had Winchester Silvertips for carry ammo.

I have a Ruger GP100 and the grips are great for full power 357's so I think this GP100 would be more comfortable to shoot with 44 spl's. Only thing is that apart from some (overpriced) cowboy action shooting loads I have not seen any 44 special ammo in my New England LGS's for quite some time.

Regards,
Badger

I'm waiting for Ruger to fix their messed up front sights. All the ones I've seen are fit so that the sight does not sit flush on the base.
But in the meantime, I've got my S&W 24-3 to keep me warm!!

Thanks from ray55classic

Mazer, that is a sweet little gun. I bet it's a good shooter too, never seen a SW revolver that had real sights that wasn't.

Thanks from mazer

You can still find these around, about $200 more than the Ruger would cost, but I do like the GP-100 and have been hoping they'd eventually come out with a 44spl version. I'll end up with one, but I'm going to wait till the "teething" problems are over with! Maybe in a few months or next year. Unless I see a VERY nice one....which can happen!
