Cheapest Commander(ie short) 1911 ripoff to purchase ?

Who makes or made the cheapest 1911 Commander length(or shorter) ?

I just want a name to put out there or be looking for where I could get out below $500 used, don't care about problems, FTF, FTE, things like that- all that I can fix.

These AR-15 builds are driving me crazy, and I don't want to buy frame from Gunbroker and end up with $800 in pistol I will barely shoot.

I have a bring cash alley 1911 that I replace a few parts on, did a trigger job on, fixed the sights, and very sadly it shoots as well as the three Dan Wessons I own. It's just I can carry the oid beat up Saigon 1911 crawling through the mountain laurel to get to the side.

Well there is Rock Island Armory there from the P.I.

Rock Island really does make a reliable entry level 1911.

I own both the "Commander-length" and full-size 1911 from Rock Island. Both work very well right out of the box. Can recommend highly.

Thanks from dwight55 and CharlieLima

If you were in Canuckistan, you could buy one of the EXCELLENT NORINCO clones. All forged parts.
BTDT three times.
Search my postings for a couple of examples if what can be done.

Rock Island is the best value in 1911's I've ever seen. Uses standard 1911 parts. Sure their not Colt Gold Cups but I've won a few competitions with a slightly worked Rock Island.

Be careful, some 1911 have proprietary sized parts.
I believe Taurus and Remington are like that.

Also a Rock Island fan. Unbelievable how reliable they are. I do usually replace the investment cast parts, the thumb safety and slide lock, but haven't ever broken one.

I got this one, . . . had a bit of work to do to make it uber reliable, . . . but it is now, . . . and rattles almost as bad as my old Saigon 1911.

It IS my go to, stay with, and "get er done" 1911.

May God bless,
Dwight

Dwight, everything I read about them said they where pretty good shooters except the mags wear junk.

Thanks from dwight55

Actually, . . . I only use their mags (and Rock Island as well) for target work.

I have a Chip McCormic and 2 Wilson Combat mags, . . . they are my "go to" mags for both my 1911's.

But in their defense, . . . had 2 mags for the ATI and the Rock Island, for something near 10 years, . . . have never had a failure.

May God bless,
Dwight

I'm going with ATI. I still have a stash of Dan Wesson pre-CZ sale stuff when he cleaned house.

Thank you all.
