I gotta ask: we've bought a metric buttload of M9's between 2006 and 2012. Between those pistols and the ones they've bought since 1985, have they REALLY worn the damn things out so bad they can't be rebuilt at the Depot level?

Last I heard even Congress was having heartburn over the military's replacement of the pistol.

Be better off rebuilding the 1911s they have stacked up, at least they are worth the time.

Thanks from High Hat and dozerhand

I like a glock, but I don't care for a berreta 92 type pistol. A G19 beats it in every race. A 92 is to big to heavy and to hard to learn to shoot well if you do t know how to shoot. Why it was picked by the US military is still beyond me. I guess they watched lethal weapon before they choose it. Or die hard one of the two! LOL.

Got more ammo in one gun. Who says you need two shots?

Like the remaining M1911A1s I saw in 1989-92, the current M9s I have seen are in pretty bad shape.

Not a few of are now all-silver frames, I can't image what the high wear surfaces, like the rails, look like.

Seeing as an M1911A1 built in 1945 was only ten years older than an M9 built in 1985, I would doubt they are at the end of their lives. I cannot see the aluminum frame lasting as long as a steel frame, just from a wear perspective.

Uncle Sam is finding out the hard way that an aluminum frame pistol is not as durable as an aluminum frame rifle.

Once the rails and the anodizing are worn, there really isn't a cost effective way to bring them up to spec. I believe that is why they want a "modular" pistol to replace it. I think the Sig is a good choice. I will probably never get another 9, but if I do it will be the M17.

Does anyone know if Sig, HK or any of the 1911 brands provide heavier trigger pulls on their firearms? Glocks aren't the only brand putting out guns without conventional safeties.

Forgot with the da/sa Sigs you get a decocker that gives a 10lb pull.
My agency ordered Glocks with 5.5# triggers. We felt that proper training was better than trying to order hardware to compensate for lack of proper training.

The Glock is one ugly beast, but it makes a fine police service pistol. I don't know the criteria the U.S. Army uses for service pistol selection, but it would appear Glock was not ready for the process.

Thanks from brianns

We could give Beretta the, "Too late, already got something that works fine, who cares" award but...

...we gave that award to Springfield for the Saint.

The actual reason Glock never wins these bids is BC they have their own rail system, had they used the same rail as every body else and figure out how to make a glock truly ambidextrous they might could win the bid. The military is already changing pistols no need to buy all new lasers and lights to accommodate the G rail system.
