Need help dating Iver Johnson .32 Revolver

This was my great grandad's revolver he carried on his donut truck many years ago. Ive had her for over 17 years or so and have had trouble dating it. What do you guys think? I know it's not valuable but she's an heirloom is all.

I believe it's a model 3 .32 Safety Hammer but could be wrong.
Serial number (5348) is located on bottom of trigger guard and under the grip.

Thanks guys.

Russ

The I.J. Safety Hammer model was built from 1892' to 1950' in various models.
This thread may help it narrow it down some ,
it covers a number of early Iver Johnsons in it's 6 pages .

http://www.thefirearmsforum.com/thre...umbers.100202/

Narrowing it down If your .32 is a 5 shot it's the "small frame model", a 6 shot is the large frame model
The 3rd model started production in 1908 and continued until the start of WW2

Iver Johnson models and production dates

While I've yet to date your revolver the fact that it's a 4 digit serial number with no prefix would seem to indicate it's fairly early, although it has later model wood grips .
Yours is in very nice shape for it's age , whatever it is.

^^ this^^
Awesome shape for a pistol that is this old. I looked myself and found nothing on the 4 digit pistols. Will continue to look.

Thanks fellas. It's been difficult to find the date on it. There's the possibility it's pushing 100 but with its shape I don't know.

I would bet it a good bit over 100 years old.

So far I understand that the one piece wood grip was an option/special order...

From what I understand the 3rd model had coil springs instead of leaf springs so at it's youngest it's 75 yrs old,
at it's maximum age it's 109 yrs old [post 1908] and it was made for smokeless powder.

Pay special attention to post #56, the fact it was special order could explain the no prefix serial #

I collected, ah, cheap topbreaks including Iver's, H&R's, Webely's, Enfield's and S&W's for several years and have some books on them that are up in WA state right now.

From what I remember the Iver's s/n's were not that helpful.

Here's where I got a lot of my info from:

BTW .32 S&W Long or short?

Sorry that I can't help with a Date of the Revolver, but this post reminded me of an ad from way back when.

Thanks from russmerle and Rich D
