Meprolight sights......never again

Was issued a new P229 recently. Some have Meprolight sights, some Trijicons.....mine has Meprolights. Soon after I got it, the front sight quit glowing. It was glowing over the weekend, and on Monday it wasn't.

Called Meprolight about getting a replacement. Only way to get a free one was to send the messed up one back. That wasn't gonna work.....I kinda need a front sight. So I had to pay for one. They cut me a discount on the sight, but it still irked me.

Got the new one in and then mailed them the old one so I'd have a spare. Good thing that I did because a five months later the replacement front sight went out.

I swapped it with my spare front sight and ordered a set of Trijicon sights. I'll never use Meprolight again.

Doesn't Uncle Sam replace them on your duty piece for you?

SIG's can come with either Trijicons or Meprolights.

Thanks from Wasted ammo

Yes, and I'm an Armorer for my agency, but they won't let us replace sights at the field level, even though we're trained and equipped to do so. My gun would have to be overnighted to HQ, they replace the sight(s), test fire it, and overnight it back. So best case scenario is 3 days. In the meantime, I'm issued a spare weapon that isn't set up the same as mine and have to carry it for those 3 or more days......possibly longer depending upon where in the world I'm sent during that timeframe.

Like most things in life, screw Uncle Sam, I'll fix the problem myself quicker, simpler and easier, and write the Trijicons off on my taxes.

Thanks from Dougboffl

I am an armorer for both Sig and Glock. I have also had lots of experience with both brands of sights. For me, I have had more Trijicons burn out on me than I have meps. The Dots are also a little bigger and brighter on Meps than Trijis most of the time as well. The Meps always seem to fit better and need less filing than trijis lately. In other words, just my 2 cents but I much prefer the Meps. Sorry their customer service was crap. I installed a set of trijis on a Beretta 92A1 and they sent me the wrong rear sight. Getting it fixed took me sending in the entire slide and waiting 4 weeks when I suggested them to just send me the proper rear sight. So Triji's customer service isn't much better it seems.

Meprolight is owned by Mako. Mako was banned from advertising on AR15.com due to screwing their customers over repeatedly.

My experience with Meprolight is just from one P229 Sig that came with them.
I changed them out quickly for Novak's gold bead front and black low mount combat rear. That was my first experience with night sights.

Quite frankly to think you're going to take time to align those three little lights in a gun fight at night just seems silly to me. Just get your front sight on the bad guy and pull the trigger. More than likely the distance will be so short you won't even worry with sights.

On my personal handguns I run a plain black rear and a tritium front, just for this reason. However, this is my duty weapon and I have to set it up as issued.

My favorite 1911 has a tritium front sight, a Trijicon HD. But I liked it because of a big yellow dot and the .145 width as opposed to the standard .125 width.

I have and use both. I have had good luck with both. My Meps are over eight years old and going strong.

I've gone to using the Truglo TFX sights. They are very bright both night and day. I know a few guys who use them and so far I've only heard good things. The only difference I can see with mine are the aim point is slightly different. My trijicons would "lollipop" with the impact point just above the front sight. These hit directly behind the sight so I've had to adjust a bit, but other than that they work the same.
