From what I can find out, the MFR code on the 1911 USGI mags I already have from CMP makes them Checkmate. I'll just be using ball.

I have to say this SA1911 loaded is really growing on me. It's becoming my favorite in the herd. I might have to make room for another along the way.

Thanks to everyone that gave me guidance.

Thanks from Phil McGrath

You could get a really nice 1911 for $1500.00. I too would look at Colt, Kimber or SA. I know Colt had some quality issues in the past, but I don't know if they got them fixed yet though.

An ambi can be added very easily with some fitting to the sear but my own 1911 opinion and Im big on them, I carry 5" daily, is that quality does not follow prices, for production guns. Also, though I carry a Springfield, its only original in the frame and slide anymore, I bought it new. Now that I've got three Rock Island guns, those are better out of the box than this Springfield was. Now I'm a diehard Springfield guy but this GI model I bought was pretty poor in fit/finish, less than the Rock's. I'd buy a Rock and throw a few parts at it before I bought something more expensive.

Saw a 1943 manufacture 1911 just this morning at our local gs. Looked like a post WWII advertising piece...wooden box with a Colt advertising brochure affixed to the inside of the top box. The box was well cared for and looked period.
Did not have a camera with me....sorry.

McCormick OK, have Wilsons and prefer Tripps for my 1911 45s, 10mm and 9mm.
