Army to Adopt SIG Sauer Handgun

The Army has (finally!) completed their competition for the Modular Handgun System, and Sig-Sauer has been declared the winner. Operational testing will commence shortly, and fielding is scheduled for later this year.

Modular? Though the article doesn't name the model, it's likely the P320. Striker-fired.

I've fired its older brother, the hammer-fired P250, which shares the same grip module system with the P320. It's a very nice weapon -- accurate, reliable, lightweight, and good ergonomics. And iirc, it is built in New Hampshire and most of Sig's manufacturing was moved to the US a few years ago.

I suspect there will be complaining -- someone always complains -- but IMHO this was a good choice ... assuming I got the accepted model correct.

USCG sidearm has been SigSauer P229 DAK since I joined.
P220/P226/P227 have also been used by DOD Units or US Agency for specific reasons.

Sounds like army will be going with P320 as Pennamite says. The internal frame appears to be true modular platform. Good update from Nicholst55.

Good news to hear that they finally decided on a pistol. The M9 lasted over 30 years, hopefully the p320 will prove it's worth.

Get your popcorn before the old timers get here to gripe about the .45 cal
Hopefully you know I'm just giving some people a hard time ;)

I ain't that old, but I'm not a fan of the berreta pistol. If they want a 9 they should have picked the G19. IMO. With that said wasn't nothing wrong with the 1911!

Is there no worthy US made firearm worthy of consideration.

Sig is good, but shouldn't our armed forces use what we can manufacture for them?

Sends a bad vibe in my mind when we are trying to bring manufacture jobs back into this country.

Headline should read.

Army adapts another 9mm piece of junk.

SIG Sauer manufacturing has been moved to the US.

thetruthaboutguns.com: SIG SAUER to Produce All Guns in US by 2015, June 30, 2014

nhbr.com: SIG Sauer to open new plant in Arkansas, January 25, 2016

From the article - "SIG Sauer currently employs 1,100 workers in five facilities seacoast in Portsmouth, Newington, Exeter and Epping. Taylor said he expects that New Hampshire number to grow as sales increase, especially in an election season when gun control and terrorism are major issues."

It's when they switched from the 1911 to the Beretta.

Got it. That is what I was thinking. Thanks.

I love 1911s. I have two -70 series Colt Commander and a Springfield Full Size. But I can definitely see why the Army, etc. has moved to a 9 mm. Current 9 mm technology performs just as well in tissue as do 40 W&W and 45 ACP. I didn't previously believe this, but FBI studies have suggested this as true. 9 mm offers higher magazine capacity, which is beneficial. Most importantly, most folks shoot better with 9 mm over other calibers.

The only 9 mm I own is a NIB HK P7M8. I have shot one M8 once, and I loved it.

I am in the market for a 9 mm at this time, and thus far, I really like the CZs I have fired. Maybe I should consider the P320?

The only handgun I own is a sig p250. Well I have 3 of them. Originally bought the subcompact for the wife and then I shot it and promptly sold my other hand guns and bought 2 more p250. Now just need another trigger assembly and I will have a fourth ready to go.

But I would like a p320 series to go with the p250. I like sig hand guns. Just wish mags were as cheap as glock mags.

I have a sig 1911 and a p226 both are very well made and very shootable pistols. Glock pistols catch it BC they ain't as accurate, that's a crock. Glocks are just as accurate just not as easy to shoot well! Sigs are made in New Hampshire.
