WW2 Handgun info needed, 1911 and 2 oddballs

Hey guys, I am in need of some help with old handguns. These are a family friend's, who recieved them from their granddad that was a bomber pilot in WW2. The 1911 was his, but he never returned it when he was done. If I can I will try and add the pictures from my phone, if they do not come through I will do it when I get home.

One question they had is if the grandfather never turned the 1911 in is it potentially illegal that they keep it? Also, they have some of the original ammo, I will add pictures of it but do you think the ammo would be OK to shoot? Would you even shoot the gun or ammo?

I added the pictures to the first post, I will now add the oddball pistols. We have no idea what brand or model these pistols are if anyone might have an idea.

On the 1911 It says United States Property No.1276917 and 1911A1 US Army on the right side of the frame with a 1 mark on the trigger guard below the 1911A1 US Army mark.

The left side of the frame has a FJA mark below the slide stop and a P mark below the mag release.

Don't shoot the ammo. It's corrosive and worth more as a collectable. Dont know about the pistol, but I don't think anyone is worrying about that any more.

Those pics stink.... but it looks like a nice pistol. Colt....

It is legal to own and if I remember correctly, officers were allowed to keep their sidearms.

Charlton Heston (WW2 USAAF) brought home his 1911A1 and he lived in CA. No one took it away from him!
In your case you live in the land of the free! Florida!
Unless you carry it and don't have a CC Permit you
(They) are fine!
If you are still worried about it I will drive over to you tomorrow and take it off your hands for a modest sum!
It is a great piece!

The U.S. Government Sold 'Zillions' of those 1911s' Post-WWII/Korea...on one itty-bitty piece of paper...for almost Pocket-Change (now)!
I really doubt that any of that era Pistols could be tracked or accounted for after all this time!

Ain't no way in hell I wouldn't shoot that gun! Even if it isn't yours, shoot it. Put some oil on her make sure the barrel is clear of obstruction and let her eat!

He also had a mag pouch, I believe an original ammo can, and these are what the ammo was in.

Very cool, the second set of pics just loaded on my tablet. My post was purely I intended for the 1911.

If that box of ammo isn't taped shut takes some pics of it, chances are someone on the forum has some or knows about it.

Unless my eyes are really bad, I believe Colt is stamped there on the slide, along with the little horse signifying Colt.

Thanks from Wasted ammo

I'm on a d... Tablet and can't see the pics good enough the read the 1911. It will say on the left side of the slide who made it. Look and see if the numbers match.

If it says colt and has the little horse spoken of in the above post, it's a colt.

Thanks from CAVman and Warowl
