Carry gun for summer ie small for shorts pocket?

So thinking of a small pistol for use when wearing short or light weight pants. Something for the pocket since a under shirt and cover shirt won't be practical. I usually carry my Sig P220 or HK P2000 but those will be less than ideal and the J-frame is a little bulky in a pocket. I can carry open here and do at times however still not the best in shorts since I usually do not tuck in a shirt when wearing them.
Long story short what gun? Thinking 9mm or most likely .380? Not real comfortable with lighter cal for protection. I have a big hand so these platforms are hard for me.

Side note: I won't touch a S&W newer than early 90s.

Bersa Thunder 380
Ruger LC9 LC380
Kahr CW380
???

I wouldn't bet my life on the three semis you listed
My default gun is still an Airweight J frame.

Awards Showcase

Sig 938, nuff said.

Actually I just put that because I hate when people say 'nuff said'.

Sig 938. Think Colt mustang in 9mm.

Sig makes great guns but the dimensions of the 238 and 938 "bit" my hand when I shot them.
Thanks

I need a pistol under $600 budget is just not there any more. I do understand the theory of cost of life outweighing the savings on the pistol but it just isn't there. I won't buy junk but I also can't spend a lot. Quality is important.

I do carry my S&W 637 it is just wide, as is any revolver compared to a pistol.

I am not a fan of the 9MM (I like the 1911,45) but I had to Carry the M9. Way too Big for Florida.
My Wife bought me a SIG9 MM 938 Scorpion for my B Day and I carry it every day.
It is the size of a .380 (that I would not count on ) and fits in my shorts.
I carry every day. The FDE is wearing off at the corners but no one can see it.

Colt Mustang? What is that? Mustang II Even better LOL.

Being in Florida, I wear the cargo shorts and t-shirts or a polo type shirt all the time.
I also have a j frame and love it, but in attire like the OP is mentioning it's just a bit bulky for me also.
Yep, I love my S&W. but I wanted something I could throw in my pocket, that is reliable,
in a common caliber w/ other pistols I support, and is a good backup for my backup.

For a scenario like the OP is talking about, I have a double barrel .357 mag derringer.
Nice because you can load .38 special in it if you want, which is actually what I have in there now.
Simple as pie to carry in my pocket, heck I can carry it while I take out the trash without having to go find a holster.

Just a thought.....best of luck with your search.

I've carried a concealed backup pistol for decades in simliar circumstances to yours and these days I carry a Ruger LCP with 7 round mag + 1 in the tube. I've added a Houge grip to spread the recoil from the pistol across the web of the hand. When you can't carry anything larger the LCP is an excellent choice when carried in a pocket holster that covers the trigger completely.

Perhaps a little "thinking out of the box" ??

I say this because I am a 100% believer in that little guns can get you killed.

I finally got a 3 inch Springfield .45 ACP, . . . and it is NOT a pocket gun, . . . unless you have "some kinda" pockets. And while it is only a 6 + 1, . . . it's still better than a 5 shot revolver, . . . and most pocket .380's and 9mm's.

If I was doing a "shorts and tee shirt" thing, . . . I would opt for a belly band, . . . knowing I could carry my micro with me. That makes me feel a whole lot better.

My usual carry gun is either a full size or commander 1911.

I also have carried a separate belt and holster, . . . with my other slacks outside of this rig, . . . for special times when there could be zero giveaways that I am carrying.

May God bless,
Dwight

Thanks from wfmiller

Yep, it seems my 442 is the one with me most of the time and I have a few other options.
