XD-9SC Range Report (Semi)

On Sunday I took my first Concealed Carry class which last about 7 hours. Learned a lot and I am really glad that I did go. At the end of the class they had us shoot the gun we were planning to use for our concealed. This would be my first time shooting this gun and my 4th time shooting a hand gun so I figured I would share the resaults.

Unfortunately I do not have a picture of the targer cause they took it when class was done but I will do my best to describe what went on.

They had shoot at 9 feet 6rnds two handed supported, 6rnds right handed unsported, and 6rnds left handed unsupported. Then they backed it out to 21 feet where we shot 7rnds two handed.

My set up was XD-9SC 115grn Winchester 9X19.

Results:
7 countable holes.
2 in the 8 ring
1 dead center in the head (dont know where that came from seeing I never aimed at the head)
The rest were in the 9 ring and 1 massive hole in the center wring.

Final Score: 96 out of 100. Lost 4 for the mysterious headshot.

Overall I am really impressed especially seeing my experience with hand guns. I have also come to the conclusion that I love my XD and happy that is what I went with.

Hmmm, lose points for a head shot? Seems like you'd get extra points.

Anyway, congrats.

Exactly. When you goin to put a hole into a man in anger you don't shoot at his head. You should aim at his broadest part. When adrenalin is flooding your body and your triggerfinger and you probably have less than optimal aiming conditions, no reliable backstop and an attorney looks over your shoulder and you have no second chance... don't overestimate your shooting abilities.

That was their point exactly. Less of a chance the bullet will miss and fly past hitting someone that wasnt involved if you aim for center mass. The head is a smaller target and with all factors playing in, it could be potential for jail time if not a law suit.
