How to stake a 1911 plunger tube for noobs like me (video)

This is likely second nature to all of the 1911 experts around here but I thought maybe some noobs may like to see it done.

Pretty straightforward. I figured it was cheaper to try it myself than send it anywhere for repair. It came loose with relatively few rounds through the pistol... probably less than 2000. I've run this pistol in a couple of matches but otherwise it's just a plinking pistol for my wife (which she loves).

This time I just degreased it and re-staked it to see if it'll hold; if it comes loose again I'll rip it off and install another with loc-tite, etc.

Thanks from XXIV Corps and Silverton4

There is better version of this that uses a modified pair of pliers or vise grips, cost twice as much but works much better. Locktite is not needed.

I saw that... why is it better? Works the same way from what I can see. Probably easier to use with the vise-grip system rather than turning a bolt?

Easier to use, get a better feel to the process.

It looks like it would be a better application to use a torque wrench and a socket set on the tool staking. A Crescent wrench is perhaps not my first choice for a wrench.

Probably a better idea. Particularly if the makers of the tool could guesstimate and give some idea of proper torque needed to flare the stakes. Their directions were "no more than one complete turn" of the bolt.

The tool that I used is quite different. I'll post a pic of it when I get a chance. I did build several 1911's in the 70's and 80's.
