I was thinking the battleship gray because it'll match the bead blasted portions of the gun perfectly, then the polished grip screws would contribute to the polished flats on the gun. Wood grips would throw out the bad ass "tactical" look of the gun and turn it into a relic. IMHO.
I have the Operator 2's on one of my 1911's and I love them. Only problem is that they don't come in battleship grey. I'm placing an order through Springfield's Stocking Dealer catalog for another 1911, (beadblasted with polished flats). I already checked one out with some battleship grey VZ's and it is SEXY.
Another thing I love about the VZ's, if they don't fit the thumb safeties, (like mine) you can dremel/sand off what you need to and just hit it with a dab of oil and it looks good as new. They do feel great in the hand though. Very grippy. I had to take some high grit paper to the entire grip to dull down the cuts because they were actually tearing into my hand. They have options for different cuts to work with your gun as well. Safeties, flat bottom, thumb notch, bobtail.... All kinds. Check them out in the drop down list when you click on a grip you like on the site.
