Visit with Gus

Last Saturday on the way home from Arlington, VA, we took a different route and met up with Gus to pick up the 3 lug M1 he freshened up for me. He reworked the rear sight, the trigger, small other items, the majority of it was the re-bedding.

Sorry about the picture, can't turn it.

Of course I wasn't picturing him that way. I was thinking dark hair. Glad he is around, but really miss his posts on this forum.

I have never met the man, but I certainly enjoy reading through the posts he has put up here. A treasure chest of knowledge.

Two fine looking Gentleman.

Gus looks very much as he always has, it has been many years since seeing him back in Oceanside, Ca., I think it was at the Del Mar Gun Show. Best regards to both of you. Drive home safely Nez...Art L.

I think Rod Stewart said it in a song, "Some guys have all the luck..."

I've had the pleasure of both Gus and Bamban working on my rifles. Both fantastic gentleman and outstanding gunsmiths. Thanks to both of you!

Please let Gus know we miss him and hope he is doing well. I had family down his way for a long time. I wish I knew before I joined here.

We did not talk about the forum. We spent quite a bit of time over the phone and in person talking about the details of the work he did on the 3 lug Garand.

To honor the Legends behind this M1; originally built by Fowler, re-barreled by Don McCoy with an Obermeyer, now freshen up by Gus, I will shoot it in matches. Now with 2 bad shoulders, it might be a tall order to try to compete with this kind of inconvenience.
.

Thanks from Phil McGrath, TCAF, nf1e and 1 others

Dang, Bamban. Sorry to hear about your two bad shoulders. Can surgery help or is it too late for that? That kind of thing takes the starch out of your shorts, doesn't it?
