The only part that would bother me was what else didn't they do? I'm not trying to start a fuss. Just saying I would always have it in the back of my mind. We are talking about 2 screws at $1.99 each.

1. See if the liner is in place.

2. Get on the phone to SAI Customer Service.

You need a special bit/tool in order to tighten the spanner screws. The tool is about $10 and is available from Brownells along with the screws, but this rifle should never have left the factory this way.

(You also should never have accepted it from your dealer this way )

It can go back to the mother ship, I trust Springfields service after the sale.

you need to take the trigger assy. out and take the receiver out of the stock; and see if there is a stock liner in the stock; that is what the screws goes into; hit research to see what a parts break down of the rifle looks like and you will see what a stock liner looks like.

If you have a stock liner, I can mail you the 2 screws.

As mentioned by a few, there is no cross bolt. What is there is a liner. They look like this:

I know how it is to get a new toy and totally miss something in the dealers shop. You get home and bam it hits you in the face. Call Springfield and explain their error. I bet the parts will be in the mail to you the same day. Congratulations on a fine new gun. Now you get to take it a part and start scrounging for USGI parts..............by that time your parts will be on your door step. Bummer though......and you are handling it well. Fish.

By the way, I recently bought a Sig Legion, got it home and noticed a flaw in the finish.
Funny I don't shoot that gun as much as I thought I would....................kind of took all the fun out of it.

Call them up. Have Springfield send you the bolts and the tool.

It's cheaper for them than shipping a rifle both ways, and you will get a tool out of it which you might use in th future.

You might want to refer Springfield to this thread so they can see from the images that the screws were never installed. If so, the wood under the head of the screw would be burnished (or polished, have compressed grain, maybe even would be darker from any oil from the screw head).

I really do not understand how this rifle left the factory without those screws. They are not in a hidden location. Not only did a QC guy miss their absence, but whoever inserted the magazine and test fired must have missed it also.

Springfield should be embarrassed about this being made public and overnight the screws and a tool to fix the situation. You should not have to do w/o the rifle for weeks for such a simple fix. Best wishes for a quick resolution.

Well at least nobody said you were stupid like one did to me when I had a thread about not getting the barrel the rifle was advertised as having. I sent it back and it will be here on Wednesday with the proper barrel, the one it was supposed to have. SAI will fix it.

My rifle was sent back to the same place because mag it came with wouldn't lock into it, as well as a few other issues, and it just got to my house today. I'm a little worried what I'll find when I get home in a few hours as its Friday the 13th!

Thanks from WaM14gunner
