scope mounts

Buying my first m1a and it's a pretty big investment for me as as im still in college trying to do as much research as possible and im having trouble deciding what mount to put on the rifle. My main contenders are the bassett mounts and the casm mount from m14.ca also if anyone has some good suggestions for 30mm scope rings I'd be grateful as well

I use a Bassett mount. Leupold and many other companies make good rings. Get rings made of steel. Not aluminum.

Welcome, which rifle are you going to go with? You can use the search button to search this forum for anything including your question about mounts and rings, enough info to keep you reading for weeks. Check out Tonybens videos on youtube and this sight. He has a PHD in this rifle platform.

I have a sadlak and like it, but sometimes wish I had gone with the Bassett.

I have a Sadlak steel mounts on both of my scoped M1As. I had many brands but sold them all when I got my first Sadlak.
For rings, I prefer Badger Ordnance.

Not one thing wrong with using Seekins alum rings.

have you tried the search in the upper right of the page? every question you can think of about this rifle and many other fire arms can be found using it. not to be "that guy" who has to say something but it seems that in the past month or so there has been multiple people asking the same questions on mounts and rings.

I use a basset low mount and medium burris signature rings set up for a 20 moa cant.

I prefer the bassett mount. It is well priced and isnt a semi permanent mount. You can put it on and take it off with very little (I.E 1MOA or Less) shift in zero.

Sadlak is great too but a little more permanent and more expensive.

There are others too like the blackfeather CASM that I think is interesting but removed the iron sight.

SEI imo is just an expensive sadlak.

Bottom line for me is go with the bassett. You can use the irons when you want then put the scope on when you need it with very little shift in zero. My testings have shown about .5 moa shift which is pretty small.

Here is my scout with the bassett and a Bushnell 1-6.5x elite tactical.

Thanks from Wasted ammo

They are both very similar, but the top rail portion of the SEI is also a bit taller making your scope ride higher if you use the SEI.

Between the two you mentioned I would absolutely take the Bassett (railed version). Both give you a rail to mount optics, but with the Bassett you don't have to take off the rear sight.

However, since this is your first M1A and it sounds like you are on a tight budget, I would really suggest holding off for a bit and just shootting iron sights! The M1 Garand and M14/M1A sights are just about as good as it gets.

I personally have never heard anyone say they liked any gen of springfield mounts. There are better options out there. Those of us that use Bassett mounts like them because they can be put on or taken off in about 5 seconds, without taking anything off your rifle.
