Might want to remove the gas plug and tip the piston out. Clean the inside of gas cylinder with long q-tips and the piston itself. Doubt the port is clogged as the pressure and heat would've dislodged any dried solvent/oils. Carbon buildup can be quite hard indeed. Mark plug position with grease pencil or nail polish if concerned. Check port clearance again. Perhaps a toothpick would also work to dislodge any possible blockages. Something is retarding your cycling when it only sat for a year.

I use a plastic straw off a brake cleaner can it's small enough and won't
damage anything, I also use it as a feeler and an alignment tool..

Problem Solved

Gas tube had shifted forward a few mm, taking it out of alignment with barrel port. Now a pipe cleaner goes all the way inside barrel from the relief port. Must have happened when cleaned last time. Now the lock rotates to about 8 o'clock instead of 7. Thanks for your responses.
