Well now I finally know what broaching is. I guess if you were working wood, that tool would be an adze.

broaching would be used basically to cut internal keyways

Broaching is type of machining where a fixed tool traverses across a given surface to produce a flat or radius .
Keyways are just one type of broached operation.

In this case I'm relieving the radius corners left by the endmill.

The beauty of broaching is in production the entire inside profile of the magazine well can be cut in one pass. Many of the external profiles were also broached as a time saver.
