Hi, I'm trying to remove the stripper clip form my Poly to install a ProMag Mount. I have the 3/32 punch and have soaked the roll pin overnight with AreoKroil. I can't get the pin to budge! I bent a punch (long). I was thinking about cutting the punch to about a 1/2 inch long and use it as a starter punch then trying another long punch if the pin moves.
Other than that I may have to drill the pin out. Has anyone had this much trouble removing the stripper clip pin before?
I just did mine,,that pin is in there pretty solid I also had to do a little file work to my punch as a lot are tapered,,I took some pretty good whacks but it came out ok,,
Use high quality punches, I have a set of "Starrett" punches that are the best I have ever worked with. They make punches for roll pins that have a small ball in the middel of the punch to center it but I have not been able to find a set and the ones my brother had were stolen when his house was robbed.
You also want to use a steel hammer when you drive pins because they have more shock impact and do not absorb any of the strike so you dont have to hit them as hard.
My punches a Grace fron Brownells. They are a long set. Work great on 1911's Kel-Tec's and such. They have they little Ball in the center for roll pins. I guess now I'll order anothee set and cut them down (as needed) and make starter punches from one set. Being an A/C guy my torch helped out a lot.
