[QUOTE=UMBRA;806670]Traveled to Arizona with my rifle and I bought what I thought was a good case for it. Apparently not good enough for US Airways baggage handlers. The rifle seems to be OK but I think that possibly due to the place where the rear sight was resting against the side of the case, there might be some damage but I am not sure.
What I need is for someone to post a picture of the rear sight aperture and assembly, so that i can compare with my rifle. I have a loaded M1A. Also does anyone know a good gunsmith in the Phoenix area that knows the M1A? I would like to get someone who knows the rifle to check it out.
Years ago, when you checked in a rifle, the old hard plastic cases were fine as long as you locked them and I also taped them with Duct tape to "make sure" there was no fiddling around. Nowadays, I wouldn't have a rifle on a commercial airline without having it in a hard metal case that locks. Also, taping it as I did, let's them know you'll know if it's been tinkered with. Don't be shy with the tape. Insure the rifle.
I do know some M1A/M14 people in Phoenix, but I wouldn't send an enemy to them.
