It's a beautiful sight to see another one getting twisted up. I am not far behind you on a short build Rick. Have my iron in four fires right now at different stages of development lol. 2 AR's, a 25 and a 14. One of these days I will sell my tools so I don't get the urge to build anymore.

Keep us posted

I hear ya Warren. I am having trouble getting motivated on the Ar's. I have three in various stages of completion. I guess I'm just old school. Gun show here tommorrow maybe I"ll get some AR parts.

This barrel has a chamber that was roughed in. This means the chamber is not real close to the finish size. I would ream it using a piloted reamer, but I don't have one and am too cheap to rent one. I was going to bore it close with a boring bar in a lathe yesterday, but I couldn't find the finish dimisions for a chamber. I am going to finish it with a pull thru reamer and just short chamber it in the lathe.

Does anyone know wher to find a reliable drawing of a finished chamber?

saami

All case and chamber drawings are posted.

http://www.saami.org/PubResources/CC...Winchester.pdf

That said, I once made dummy rounds for training, based on the published saami drawings, and they didn't fit in the chamber. THe posted drawings are minimum chamber, and max cartridge, and the tolerance stack p is such that a max case will not fit ina chamber.

Thanks from MemphisMachinists

thanks Art,
I will compare this to the cartridge specs in reloading manuals and should be able to come up with a plan. Like I said i am going to leave 15-20 thousandths to be finish reamed.

Med wt 22" SS. It had a black finish on it when I bought it. I cleaned that off and polished it. The only marks I find are between the gas cylinder are and the flash hider area. I tried to show how the chamber is done and how far the reamer goes in now. I have not seen one like this before, but it lets me know for sure its is new. Gas cylinder splines are very tight and I am going to have to machine the gas cyl lock to get it to tighten up. I am going to use a direct connect flash hider, the front sight will mount on the gas cyl lock. Everything about this barrel is tight. If I don't screw it up I think I will have a real good shooter with this.

MM, from the looks of the NM.308-SS marking on the barrel it looks like a Wilson tube, make sure you check the HS before you run the finnish reamer too ensure that it is short chambered, it my not be.

Your mentioning "tools" makes me beg the question......"Just what is the basic list of tools needed to do a build"? I've got two M1A rifles now; a Poly/SEI and a Springy and am getting the urge that I hear mentioned in this forum so often.
