I am looking into designing a few weapons of of the M14 design, but have recently had to replace my computer. Does anyone have a recomenndation on what CAD software I should use?

Autocad is a drawing program. Google drawing programs and see what pops up. The more powerful they are the more expensive they are.

I've been using Autosketch for many years. From modeling our house floorplan to various woodworking & electrical projects. It's simple to use & you can print or export sketches to MS Word & Excel files.

If there was enough $ to spend, SolidWorks would be the best.
With a much lower price, Alibre PE could also do a good job.
Both of the above are 3D software, they generate "solid" models, ready to go into CAM.

In a few years we'll probably have some decent open-source and free CAD-CAM,
or if there is something like that good enough already, I am interested to hear about it.
