Cylinder lock

I have a TRW parts kit and playing around with it the cyl lock has a .015 gap is this the norm or is there shims? Also the op rod guide is a little loose, should this be replaced?
Thanks

your gas cylinder is too far to the rear on the boss of the barrel and the gas lock is hitting the bevel on the barrel causing the gap. you need to contact this guy http://m14forum.com/px/90979-gas-cyl...shim-sets.html and place shims between the barrel boss or shoulder where the gas cylinder bottoms out, and the back of the barrel band.

do a search for shimming the gas system. i think his username is tonyben and he has a good tutorial on it here somewhere. or maybe pm him for finding it. there is aslo a tutorial on the op rod guide for tightening it up i think. these guys here have got just about everything covered for the platform. good luck.

Having a gap makes it sound like he has left the front band off.

yep, but the gap would be around .077 since the barrel band is roughly .062

The front band was on, the lock turned 90deg past alignment before snugging up.turning it back in line and using feeler gauge found the gap to be .015. I posted before reading the rest of the Gunsmithing forum and have found the shims and answers for the guide.
Thanks, nice forum for an answers.

That's exactly what mine is doing.

Now that I know the answer is here, I'll do a bit of reading.
