Probably.

If you can show the harm, then you could argue that the bill is unconstitutional.

Not sure why people are blaming SAI or RR. The deal was cut by a lobbyist. The lobby group was the one who said that they wouldn't object if they got their cut out.

I think the SAI CEO made some comments, and I suspect more statements to come.

Don't think that was necessary. (Not that its not out of the realm of possibilities)

Too many clueless politicians who think that if they regulate gun stores out of business they will be able to stop the massive gun violence in Chicago.

This is a way to regulate the FFLs and gun stores and to make it difficult to open a gun store in Chicago.

All of the sponsors are Democrats.
The primary sponsor (author) represents Oak Park.

I'm sure you can tie this to anti-gun groups, just follow the money to him.

But I'm also willing to bet that he's just clueless enough to want to do this on his own.

The $50K each that SAI and RRA gave that went thru Keller was nothing more than a payoff to someone to get their carve out. If you have lived in Illinois more than a day, you know how politics work there.

How can the SAI CEO stand there and say they'll fight for the 2A when they didn't fight against people trying to restrict access to guns?
Sure, it MIGHT get vetoed but it could be overridden too.
It COULD get appealed to the IL Supreme Court, but who's gonna pay to fight it? They'll be up against a Bloomberg lawyer.

Best way to kill it was in the womb, SAI and RRA let the egg get fertilized without even giving the citizens of IL a reach around.

I just sent an email to SAI and told them what I thought.

I would suggest that everybody does the same and also remind the NRA via email of SAI's traitorous support of a anti 2nd amendment bill.

I remember when S&W screwed us back in the Clintonian era and I have never, nor will I ever buy one of their firearms.

I guess I will now have to add SAI to the No buy list!

No doubt, but where did you come up with a 50K payout over this?

The issue is that there are enough Dems that it only takes a percentage of them to get things passed thru house and senate. Hence the stranglehold that Madigan has on IL and his clueless daughter is AG.

There's more to the story, and it will be interesting to dig in to the finances of the Dem from Oak Park...

SAI and RRA each gave $50K to the IL Firearms Manufactures Association (IFMA), ran by... Jay Keller.

Granted, these donations were made in 2014 but they account for ALL the money that the "IFMA" had.
If you search for "Illinois Firearms Manufactures Association" you'll find nada, no website, a link to the TAG article, and that's about it. Bizapedia says they're dissolved.

Well, the 3rd reading happens in the House today and should be voted on by the full House. Hopefully the lawyers are already lined up because fighting this is getting ready to be real expensive.

Yes, I have contributed even though I no longer live in IL.

Nothing to update. I was listening to the IL House online. I guess the House sponsor of SB1657 wasn't there so the vote hasn't happened yet. The House is back in session on Monday.

Are you sure you want to do that ?
I've seen it before where legislators pass stuff and another branch or entity ignores it.

Well, no vote in the House so far. The deadline for 3rd reading and voting is this Friday, 26MAY17, so expect a vote by then. If the House doesn't vote on the bill it will kill the bill and it would have to be reintroduced next year.
