I wonder what the punishment is if you don't register because I bet there's a lot of people that aren't going to. If you register your firearm it will be confiscated.Think it can't happen just read history.

This year will go down in history! For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future! Adolf Hitler.

I don't know whether NY's "SAFE" Act imposes a punishment or penalty for failure to register a firearm required to be registered, but how does the State expect to know what needs to be registered if there's never been a registry? Laws the means for enforcement of which begins with, "Let me see your papers," never go over well in America.

The only thing i can think of is there going to get the 4473 papers from the gun shops and try to track people down that way.
What do you guys think?

Bought an AK about ten years ago, sold that to my friend to get into AR's.

Between private transfers, people moving in or out of state, people who don't actually live where their ID says they do, that's going to be a significant amount of goose chases.

Thanks from TheShooter

No way. NY does not have the budget or manpower, and local law enforcement couldn't give two hoots. Most of them don't know what's illegal or legal anyway.
I do see the online form is up. Wonder how many Mike Hunts, Hugh Ghass'es and others will have registered... LOL.

I think it will just come down to the "honor system", and if you get in trouble with police for something else and they happen to find unregistered "assault weapons" in your house or in your car, they will tack on another charge, otherwise this is just another unenforceable, feel good nonsense. I would say 50% of firearms owners, especially some older folks, will have NO IDEA of any law change.

About the same amount of work as illegally going through people's medical history looking for anti-depressents to revoke their pistol permits. They'll pick and choose, to create climate of fear. Plus they have that $500 rat a neighbor line going..

Things are gonna get interesting...

Magazine limit

The 10 round mag limit kick in but you still have 1 year to register your "assault weapon" (April 15 2014) after that there will be ALOT of dangerous outlaws in NYS! Too bad I sold all my dangerous assault rifles

We are still way too early in the game to know how it will go. The law suit filed by the NRA/NYSRPA has yet to go forward and ?? an injunction be issued. There is also a current lawsuit challenging NYS's concealed carry law that is waiting to see if the SCOTUS will accept it this term. If it does and rules against state law - it could potentially also impact NYS SAFE ACT??

After the courts overturn the safe act, remind them of the servepro slogan,

"like it never even happened"

Registration of a constitutional right is unconstitutional on its face.

I think the lawsuit incorrectly focused on the concealed carry instead of the requirement to have a license prior to purchace, which is as clearly unconstitutional as paying a poll tax to vote.

I just heard on the news that registration begins today 04/15/2013.
I am still confused.
if the rifle you have is not legal in New York anymore, do you still register it?
if it is ill Eagle do they just take it?
if "they" do not take it, do you get arrested you as you leave the place?
Also, where is the place you register these now "evil" weapons?

Dont like democrats anymore
never liked RHINO's

If ANY of this BS legilation would have stopped Sandy Hook, Aurora,
Columbine etc. I would be happy to help. These Anti-American
politico's know its easy to pick on the law abiding. They, however will not
go after the bad guys!
They fear the citizen and we have been warned throughout history
what this leads to.

If you'll register your guns, authorities will come and confiscate them. This is inevitable.
It happened in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and everywhere where registration was introduced.
