Long guns relatively easy. just tell fedex what it is. Handgun really was hard finding someone local to ship. I finally found a ffl who charged me $75 to ship using usps. $12 priority mail. hes got the ffl I dont. ffls can ship handguns by us post office. know your rules. do the legwork. I guess he may have shipped ammo usps before but this time it bit him in the ass. I dont need any gov teeth marks in mine. Be safe.
Not true. My local UPS Store take ammo and rifles.

Why don't people read the rules for shipping?
It is clearly stated USPS does not ship ammo.
Stupid people do stupid things.

Because it sounds like this guy has not been doing this very long. Probably one of those that was just taking advantage of the high price of ammo to sell his(read gouger). Anybody that has been doing this for some time knows that you can't ship assembled ammo thru USPS.

I think it varies from store to store. I tried to ship a few boxes of 7.62 from a UPS store, and the clerk acted as if I walked through the door with a nuclear weapon in one hand and the detonator in the other.

Some of the UPS "hubs" have poorly trained staff that have no clue about the regulations and policies concerning shipping ammunition. Earlier this month I went in to ship 200 rounds to one of my Navy buddies. The clerk told me that the only way I could ship the ammo was to send it to a business. I called the UPS hazmat hotline and put the customer service representative on speaker phone. Sure enough, there is no rule against shipping ammo to a private residence. It's funny how people get pissed off when they are proven wrong.

UPS stores are definitely doing things their own way. They don't always follow the UPS rules and have no problem telling me they won't do this or that. I was told by one UPS store employee that their local manager makes the rules and he didn't care what UPS rules said. I resorted to shipping all ammo sales from the UPS hub here in Kansas City several years ago. All it took was a search of their guidelines and following procedure. I followed the rules and printed my own ORM-D stickers and took them to the hub. The UPS guys there were grateful I knew the rules. They even gave me a stack of blank UPS stickers to print more off on the condition I did them a favor and printed them off some to use because they couldn't even get their company to get them any. Needless to say I did and have had no issues since. They even go above and beyond working with me if I have a pistol to ship. I'm not saying everyone will be as accommodating.

The rest of the story. Spoke with a US Postal Service inspector today regading my ammo. Long story short is that they are going to release it to me. Apparently no trouble for the company that shipped it through the mail.

I guess the USPS doesn't get too cranky about this.

Hehe, no kidding. Was expecting to hear about a long, drawn out series of legal issues, and a side story about the guy that shipped it being arrested.

I bought about 4 boxes of 10mm from someone. Anyway it came in OK but it had been opened. After that for about 2 years everytime I got a small heavy box it had been opened and retaped. I'm guessing the USPS was checking what I was getting. I even ordered some stuff from Midway USA. They had opend the box to inspect what was inside. Kind of ticked me off but what are you gonna do??

Yep. It is. The seller is also going to send me a 30 round steel AR mag for my troubles. He didn't have any M1A mags and since I don't have an AR, I'll be selling the AR mag once I determine a reasonable price for it. That will bring the ammo cost down a little.

So, all in all, a happy if not totally convenient ending. I would buy from the dealer again. He always returned my calls and was reasonable to work with.

Glad you got the ammo without to much of a delay. I'm shocked the company didn't get into trouble. Still, I wouldn't risk it shipping ammo USPS. Is the company still shipping ammo through the post office??
