Look at the NY S.A.F.E. act and that will give you all the information you need.

They changed the definition of assault weapons, so now my 10/22 is now an assault rifle, my IPSC competition pistol is now an assault weapon. We are being limited to 7 rounds down from 10. We have to register, surrender, sell out of state, or disable any evil weapon or become felons.

The power to define what is legal is the power to redefine what is illegal.
