| Texas is the best in reguards to gun laws
I just wanted to express my love of Texas and her gun laws. Good ol' common sense seems to be the word of the day more and more in reguards to the laws here. I just learned from a county sherriff that there is "no distinction between a loaded and unloaded rifle" and that being said, goes hand in hand with open carry on foot and in vehicles. So, riding around with a loaded AR in the back seat or the passenger seat is totally permissable and acceptable. that makes me feel good- especially in light of all the metal retardation that comes about in certain states in respect to gun laws. I dont always do it, but just knowing that I CAN LAWFULLY do that, it makes me feel a bit better.
its also nice to know that, even without a CHL, I can carry loaded pistol out of sight in my vehicle. Also castle doctrine laws that if the instance ever arises that i need to defend myself, i am NOT obligated to flee, but can stand my ground like a man to defend myself and mine. Just feels good to know all of that. I *love* Texas. I hope this trend continues. |

Doesn't surprise me. Southern state with lots of open spaces. Gotta love the South!!!!!! Southern to the core!!!!!!!
Not that I don't love my West Coast, Midwest, and Yankee brothers. Good folks are everywhere. I just prefer the warmth of southern culture.

Texan by birth... Texlahoman by choice.
Right on Texas! Doing it right down there and making the country proud. As for the best laws in the country, well... not to say that TX is bad because it's not... but it is hard to gauge the BEST... NRA-ILA has recognized Oklahoma several times in the past couple of years for being pro-gun/good guy.
Question, the other day someone mentioned the need for placing a purple reflective device at eye level in order to warn would be intruders that a homeownder is armed and willing to defend his property in Texas. I asked if this was true and never got a response... can you clarify?

Good for TX but not to bust your bubble, no state in the republic comes close to Alaska concerning guns rights, maybe AZ.
Every citizen can CCW = no government issued permit to CCW
State law says employers cannot take this right away in the work place.
Open carry is seen everyday; loaded long guns and short guns.
State law (rights) says municipalities cannot restrict our rights further than the state law. Changed / written in 2001 when mayors and such restricted our rights.
Law makers actually CCW in chambers. Very huge statement by law makers!
Citizens can CCW into those chambers too. Very huge statement for individual rights!
Alaska has the highest percentage of gun owners per capital Vs any other state in the republic with individual house holds having more firearms per house hold Vs any other state in the republic.

Never heard that. That kind of seems like a bad idea though, i mean sure it may deter some, but in actuality it makes you a target i think. Its letting people know you have firearms in the home specifically. I think it also sets other people up for failure who do not put this mark on their homes. yeah, i dont believe ive ever heard of that, and im sure i would have since half my buddies are police officers of one sort or another.
Its sort of implied, you break into someones home, you get shot.

TX is good but not the "best". We can open carry virtually anywhere except court houses, schools, or bars. Police stations, city halls, no problem. "Shall issue" on CHL's. Good, but NM is better. AZ and AK has us both beat......O.L.

We've made strides in recent years reclaiming the rights that were in our TX Constitution since 1845 but the Legislature had progressively taken away. We're not Alaska or Arizona, yet, when it comes to handgun rights, but give us a little time. We're as long-gun friendly and legal as any State.

To answer your question about purple stripes in Texas:
Under the Texas Penal Code (§30.05) it is an offense for any person to enter property that is fenced, posted with a sign(s), or marked (purple paint) without the express permission of the owner. Posts or trees bearing purple paint marking of not less than eight inches in length and not less than one inch in width at not less than three or more than five feet from the ground constitute notice that the property is posted.
